Roxxane's POV
"Why don't we make this interesting, Canan." I begin with a smirk.
His brows lift, just slightly. But he doesn't say anything.
"If I beat you in front of everyone here, you'll serve me for the rest of my time at this academy. Whatever I say. You'll be my lapdog."
Murmurs gyrate all around me. The stunned faces of everyone harden even more… at least from the few ones my eyes catch, they look like they are staring death in the face.
Canan, on the other hand, chuckles but the humor doesn't reach his eyes. From the moment I make my declaration, his eyes sparkle like a furnace, a blend of rage and disdain shimmering within them. "Woah," he growls. "The audacity. What's in it for me?"
"If you beat me," I am way too calm compared to the rage bubbling within me, "I'll serve you. Willingly."
He chuckles, shaking his head like he pities me for putting myself in this position. "I never need your permission to serve me, but you know what, I think I love this. I love a good challenge."
I don't reply to that. I just get ready. And then at the blow of the whistle, Canan comes at me fast. He's really fast. I'll give him that, but I make sure I match him square.
So I meet him blow for blow, blocking every strike, skillfully slipping his hits and throwing mine in return which he also skillfully dodges.
The combat stretches and none of us has the other on the ground. Apparently he's as well trained as me and soon enough, the fight becomes more feral. Our bodies lift off the ground striking each other in the air and everyone around watches with stunned expressions.
But none of them seem to be as bedazzled as Canan even though he's trying to hide it by constantly smirking at me each time I catch his hits and throw mine at a speed he can't dodge.
None of us seem to be losing to the other until something actually happens. I feel a flash of light across my vision and in that moment I am no longer in the fight. A heavy punch meets my chest, knocking me down to the floor. Air rushes out of me as a sharp pain spirals throughout my spine.
Before I recollect what's happening, a very furious Canan is hovering on top of me. His fist thrown back as if to strike me again. I wait for it but it doesn't come.
All of a sudden, his fist freezes in the air and the aggressive shimmer in his eyes suddenly turns into… shock? His entire face crunches into a hard frown, like he just sees something strange on my face.
"What?" His husky voice barely surpasses a whisper. "How the hell is it possible?"
My chest picks up at an accelerating speed. What the hell does he see? Does… he notice something?
If I would have asked him those questions, I don't get the chance because before I can blink, he's lifting himself off me. And just like that, I watch from the ground as he walks into the crowd of other males hovering around us. More like, they pave the way for him to walk past.
The rest of whatever happens next spirals around me like a haze. Everyone talks about my sudden bravery for standing up to Canan, but it just slips through my ears like noise as my mind only reverberates the weird look from Canan. As much as I wouldn't want to be burdened about it, I just can't help the curiosity.
It actually slips my mind as I engage in the combat and just on my first day, I get to win the heart of the instructor as he appraises my exceptional fighting skill.
Apparently I'm also an expert in combat and not only does he acknowledge it, but everyone else as well. I never really imagine I'll make much of an impression this soon, but good thing everything is already working in my favor. After the combat fight, there are a lot of other activities which we have through breakfast, lunch and dinner.
And all through the day, I don't come across Canan. Not like I would have acknowledged it if we didn't cross paths again, in a wrong place and very unconventional situation. It's all thanks to my alertness as a trained warrior.
I am asleep when the howling voice of someone rings in my head. Whoever owns it, I know is in pain and needs help. Jerking up from the bed, I exit my dorm, careful not to alert Jericho. Trailing the voice, it doesn't just lead me to the school forest, I come face to face with Canan. And he is plunging himself into the ass of another male student who seems to be screaming out of pain rather than pleasure.
After moments of freezing on the spot, I'm this close to turning back when suddenly Canan's gaze glazes over to me. Instantly, vivid rage flashes through his eyes like fire and in the next second, he pushes the boy off him, ordering him to leave.
The boy doesn't wait for a second command before he picks up his clothes and scurries off.
Now it remains just me and a half-clothed Canan standing just a few distances away from each other. His eyes look like they'll set me ablaze until suddenly a smirk appears on his face.
Then he walks towards me. "Since you interrupted my fun, you might as well take his place." His voice is grating as he fixes me with a predatory gaze. One that'll probably make anyone cower at his feet, but instead it upsets me.
"I'm not gay." I scoff, giving him a disgusted look.
"Really?" His lids arch up like he's taunting me.
"You made a bet. You said if I defeated you, you'd be my lapdog. So who says you have a choice if I want you to get your ass down, while I drill you with my cock."
I feel the hair at the back of my head stand as his words irritate me to my bone.
I'm prepared to tell him he didn't defeat me. I mean he didn't deliver his final blow and a whistle wasn't blown.
But he beats me to it as he speaks first. "Or maybe you wouldn't risk that? Because I could find out who you are… who you truly are…" He says hideously and his eyes squint as they pierce through me.
I don't register his words immediately. What does he mean?
"What are you…"
"I know." He cuts me off, his eyes darkening and for the first time in years, my chest begins to pulsate. "I know you aren't Ronan. I have my suspicions right from the moment you stand up to me. Ronan would never do that."
"Why? So you think I will continue letting you belittle me?"
"Quit the act. You can deceive everyone else but not me. I can smell you. I can smell the blood and scent of a woman even from a distance. I know what you are. You aren't Ronan."
His words send my heart freezing in an instant. What? My breath stops. My gaze on his cold ones wavers as Krystal's voice rings through my head.
The bane is useless to your fated mate. No way in hell, Canan is my mate? I mean that would be the cruelest joke from the moon goddess. But then again, that's the least of my worries now. This moron just unravels my secret. It's just a matter of time before I get kicked out of this Academy by the time he goes spilling.
There's no denying that he would and there's definitely no way I'll deny it by the time I get tested.
But still, I only have two options now. Either deny him or beg him. But just the few times I've known Canan, I sure as hell know either of them are bound to end up useless.
