“The reason why he wants to run from that room,” I say, pushing past him. “And if she needs help.”
Rex freezes like I slapped him. “She?”
“I mean he…get out of my way.”

“I shoot him a glare. “Don’t start.”
He rolls his eyes and follows me into the hallway. “I’m just saying! You don’t get involved with other people’s business. And definitely not him. You don’t do…”
“Rex. That’s enough.”
He lifts his hands in surrender, but he’s grinning like an i***t. “Okay, okay. Go be a hero.”
I roll my eyes and walk off. But the truth is loud in my head. I’m not trying to be a hero. I just can’t ignore it. Not when it concerns her. Not when something feels wrong.
