Chapter 12

1340 Words

Roxanne's POV The walk to the principal's office feels longer than it should. The guards' torchlights sway across the dim hallway, making our shadows stretch and twist on the walls. Everywhere is quiet. The only noise is coming from our feet hitting against the ground. I can feel Canan's presence beside me, and while my heart pounds like a drum in my chest, Canan is silent and unbothered. This freaking guy! The guards knock on the office door as soon as we arrive. And a sharp, deep voice from inside says, "Come in." I take a breath and follow in after Canan and the guards. The room smells faintly of ink and old books. The principal sits behind a massive wooden desk, glasses perched low on his nose as he looks up from a file. His gaze flickers from Canan to me, then back to the guards.
