Canan's POV I can still hear Mother's voice from when we first arrived, cold and sharp as she stood in the hallway staring at Princess like she was a disease. "You're not welcome here. I don't care what my son told you." Princess just stood there, luggage in hand, her face blank. I saw it that flicker of hurt in her eyes before she buried it. She didn't defend herself, didn't argue. Just waited for me to say something. And I did. I stepped between them and told Mother she was staying. That earned me a look that could've frozen fire.
