AURELIA
Never.
Never again will I let some shitty words from any motherfucker get into my head.
"Pass it!" Coach Damien's voice snapped me back to reality as the boys skated across the rink. My eyes remained fixed on Zane as he passed the puck to his teammate.
I quickly took note of it before lifting my hand and pressing the pen against my forehead. My eyes drifted to the entrance, and a shaky sigh escaped my lips.
After the nonsense that happened the other day, I had made sure not to cross paths with Kenzie again. Seeing her always made me feel like I was risking my scholarship, and the last thing I wanted was to get kicked out of here.
"For f**k's sake, Aurelia." I gripped my hair as guilt ate away at me. I came here to find out about Mom's death, not get tangled up with some Hollywood wannabe bully who kept making my life miserable over a boy who barely noticed her.
"That was good, Zane!" Coach Damien clapped his hands.
Zane gave him a thumbs-up before turning his head in my direction. I made sure not even the slightest smile appeared on my face.
He was the second reason why my life was so miserable.
"Let's take a short break," Elias Mercer suggested.
I checked my watch and nodded in agreement. They had been practicing for eight hours, so it was normal for them to take a break unless Coach Damien was still pissed about what had happened.
I rubbed my jaw nervously. The entire school already knew what had happened, and someone had posted it on the school's main forum, drawing the attention of the higher-ups. I had been called into the office.
I had pleaded with them and explained that I wasn't at fault, but unfortunately for me, Kenzie's family was too powerful. They couldn't punish her, so instead they punished the victim for escalating the situation.
My eyes moved to the entrance again, and this time I noticed someone standing beside it as though they were hiding.
In truth, it was one of the administrators keeping me under close watch, and the moment I messed up, I'd be kicked out of the academy immediately.
Also... the only way I could regain their trust and make them stop hovering around me was by helping the academy's superstar, Zane, return to normal.
"Why does everything I do always bring the two of us closer together?" I stomped my foot on the floor.
"Be careful there, sweetheart. You might break a bone." Zane's annoying voice rang out behind me.
"What? Sweetheart?" I gasped, taken aback.
Elias and his teammates let out long whistles.
"When did you two get so close?" one of them asked, nudging his teammates. "I feel like we missed a couple of chapters."
My face burned as they spoke, and I noticed the thumbs-ups they kept sending Zane.
"It's not like that," I forced myself to say.
Zane, however, ruined the little explanation I was trying to give by grabbing my hand.
He sat on the bench and gently turned me to face him.
"What are you doing?" My brows furrowed so tightly I feared a vein might pop.
He took off his helmet, revealing his sweat-soaked hair. He was breathing heavily, and I noticed a few bruises on his lips.
"I'm making you focus on me, Aurelia. We don't have much time before practice starts again."
I followed his gaze and saw Coach Damien on a phone call. Judging from the frown on his face, he was still pissed.
I looked back at Zane and saw him pointing at his lips. His eyes locked onto mine, and he didn't look away.
"I am not treating you," I blurted out, and the smile on his face disappeared instantly. "Your hands work just fine."
After saying that, I turned to leave, but he grabbed my arm, forcing me to look down at him.
"My hands are sore from practicing all day. You know I'm in this position because of... ahem..." His eyes shifted from me to the floor before returning to mine.
It was obvious he was blaming me.
I gritted my teeth and yanked my hand free.
"Call me 'princess' one more time and—"
Before I could finish my threat, he flashed me a huge grin.
"Okay, Princess."
"—then I won't treat your injury," I finished.
Both of us froze, along with his teammates, who had been watching the entire exchange.
Silence settled over the rink.
"..."
"I'm leaving."
I broke the silence and turned away, but he quickly grabbed me and pulled me back.
I lost my balance and fell onto his lap. One hand landed on his chest, and my lips accidentally brushed against his.
A spark shot through my body, racing straight to my brain, and my heart began pounding loudly in my ears.
Heat flooded my body, and my mouth fell open as I slowly looked up to find him staring down at me with an intensity that stole my breath.
"Z-Zane," I stuttered.
A low groan escaped his lips as his thumb brushed across mine.
"That was intentional."
"N-No," I answered quickly, trying to stand, but he held me in place.
"Let go before Coach Damien sees us."
Zane leaned closer until there was barely any space left between us.
"You can tell him you're checking my vitals... or aren't you?"
I gulped as I felt his fingers resting against my thigh. I could feel the heat between us, along with the hunger in his eyes that only seemed to grow the longer I remained on his lap.
Wait... his teammates!
I turned around sharply, but they were all looking elsewhere as though they hadn't noticed a thing.
God! This is so embarrassing!
I quickly pushed myself up and moved away from Zane.
A sharp pain throbbed through my head, and my vision blurred.
‘Mate. I want him, Aurelia. I want him!’ my wolf howled in agony inside my head.
Oh no.
This wasn't good.
