CHAPTER FOUR
The house had gone still after Nicole left. The slam of the front door still echoed in Amara’s head. She sat on the couch for what felt like hours, staring at the wall, trying to make sense of what just happened.
Her lips still tingled. She pressed her fingers against them, as if she could erase the memory of how it felt when Jace’s mouth touched hers.
It hadn’t even been a full kiss, but it was enough to make her chest tighten and her thoughts spin.
Upstairs, a door creaked. She heard movement, footsteps pacing. Jace.
Her heart jumped before she could stop it. She told herself to ignore it, to stay away, but her feet moved before her mind could stop them.
