CHAPTER TWO
Eva’s heart lurched as she stared at her bag, its contents strewn across her bed. The diary was gone, her confessions about Professor Hayes exposed somewhere beyond her reach.
Her fingers shook as she shoved textbooks and pens back inside, her mind racing through her steps.
The lecture hall, the library and his office. The last thought sent a shiver through her, fear tangling with a heat she couldn’t ignore.
She grabbed her phone, the screen showing 4:25 p.m. Her dorm room felt suffocating, the air heavy with her panic.
She slung her bag over her shoulder and hurried out, the hallway’s fluorescent lights buzzing overhead. Her sneakers squeaked on the tile as she moved, her breath coming in quick, uneven bursts.
