Chapter 2 - Mate

Chapter 2 - Mate Conall - pov I was just running in the forest passing a godforsaken small town when my stomach started to growl. Is there any wafflehouse or anything nearby? I ask myself in frustration. My wolf, Jack, howls in return. Yes, we are both hungry. I use our fantastic sense of smell to follow the faint fragrance of food. After a 20 minute run, I am in front of an old and small tavern. I hope they have at least some meat to nibble on. I transformed into my human form. I don't have to put on clothes as I am able to transform with my clothes on (one of the benefits of being an alpha Prince). I am in front of the door when the sweetest smell ever hits my nose. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. It smells like spring. Flowers combined with freshly rained forest. My heart started pounding. My breath is almost out of control as I open the door and lock my eyes on the most beautiful woman I've ever or will ever lay my eyes on. She has auburn hair that reaches over her breasts. She has blue-greyish eyes which I swear can see straight through my soul. Her small but perfect, pink lips form a smile as she says "Welcome sir, you can sit wherever you want and I'll come to you in a second". I just nod as I am at a loss for words. Her smile is dazzling and the way her eyes sparkle... I instantly want to protect her with my life. She is small, like 5'4", but her legs are long and I bet she could be a model with that body of hers. Maybe not. She has too many curves for that. Her ass is not too big, but round and I bet if I spank her it would wiggle. Her breasts aren't too big either, but I bet my hand would cup them perfectly. I can feel my pants getting tight as I keep staring at her. What is f*****g wrong with me? I groan in frustration. I closed my eyes, trying to calm down my still racing heart. I hear footsteps coming toward me and I open my eyes again. There she is, in all her beauty. "Good evening, what can I get you?" She smiles and that sparkle is back. The way she holds that pencil and notebook reminds me of a student. Thinking about it, she is probably in her early 20’s. I am only a little older. "Excuse me, sir? Is everything alright? Can I get you something?" I could sense a little worry in her voice. Understandable if you consider I've been staring at her without answering. "Just a Whiskey on the rocks", I answered her, a little husky. I seem to have lost my appetite. The only thing I crave right now is her body. She looked at me from tip to toe. "I don't want to sound prejudiced" she says carefully, "but I want to warn you. Our Whiskey may not meet your expectations." Fantastic, she already sees me as a scary businessman. I don't blame her, I am wearing a suit that is probably worth more than this place and I have a strong alpha aura. "I don't mind, bring me a glass" I answered. "Right away sir" she almost tiptoes away, taking the strong fragrance with her. A part of me is glad because the smell is making my head spin, but another part of me wants to drown and lose myself in it. My eyes unconsciously follow her and I keep watching her like I watch my prey. My wolf is trying to come to the surface but I push him back. I see the waitress coming back and my heart skips a beat. Since when does my heart skip a beat? I am the womaniser, I make their hearts beat, not the other way around. I pulled myself together and looked away. She reaches out to put my glass on the table, but I meet her mid-air, taking over the glass. When our hands touch, I can feel the electricity, an instant pull, making me retreat my hand. The glass falls and breaks on the floor. That's when reality kicks in and I hear my wolf say "mate". My eyes get their golden glow as I try my best to control my beast. I groaned and looked at the waitress. I probably looked pissed as hell even though this was my fault. But right now I have bigger problems, like preventing my beast from marking her right here and now. "I... I'm sorry, I will get you a new one. Just give me a second!" She stumbles and practically runs back to get me a new one. Ever since that incident, she has been avoiding me. I've watched her work and socialise with everyone here, except for me, and I feel frustrated. I stare out of the window as I order another one. It's almost midnight and everybody is gone. I could talk to her right now and tell her about werewolves as she is clearly human. But the way she looks at me when she thinks I’m not watching her, the annoyed and scared look in her eyes, makes me reconsider. She is a human. I’ll have to take my time before I drop this “wolf bomb” on her. I groan and swallow down the last whiskey. I asked for the cheque, put a 100 dollar bill on the table and left. I go into the forest changing back into my wolf and as I am about to run back to the pack, I feel my wolf resisting my decision. Staying a little longer won't harm anyone, I tell myself, as I find a spot to hide in. After some time, she steps outside and starts walking. Why is she walking all alone in the middle of the night on some abandoned road? I instantly become overprotective and decide to follow her. Besides, maybe I'll find out where she lives. I accidentally stepped on a branch. The sound informed her of my presence. I duck, hoping she does not see me, but I am a hunter with royal alpha skills, she wouldn't find me, even if I let her. I see her looking around and nervously taking out her phone. In her other hand, she holds her keys as some sort of weapon. Cute, very cute, as if that would help. I use my exceptional hearing to listen to the conversation. "Hello?" I heard a woman's voice. Fortunately, I don't know what I would have done if she had called a man. "Chloe, thank god you answered your phone" I hear the beauty say. She sounds very distressed. "Alena, do you know what time it is? Is this your way to take revenge on me for not working overtime?" Alena? So that's her name. Hmmm, I like it. It suits her. I keep on listening while following her home. She looks very scared, but little does she know it's me who is following her. I would literally give my life for her safety. She arrives at what looks like her home. It's a small, probably 2-bedroom house. She goes inside and I can see her peering through the window. That's when we make eye contact and my heart starts racing again. I am f****d.
