Early in the morning, my alarm rang, but I decided to hold on a little, before I stood up; after all, yesterday’s activity was a great one!
"Ohh!" I took a deep breath, and yawned. I knew I was just taken away from the forest, not too long.
The alarm rang again, louder than the first time it did. I guessed it was the way it was set that made it ring louder than before — to ring loud, whenever it was set a second time.
I raised my head. I rubbed both my eyes and entire face with my right hand in order to see things clearly. When I looked beside me in bed, I realized there was nobody with me.
I was shocked!
“Who is there?!" I kept on screaming, as my voice returned to me, that I knew I was the only one present. "Where are you?!” I exclaimed, glancing through the window as though I saw the man I was meaning to talk to.
After some time, nobody talked. I laid my head on the pillow, and began to hear voices from outside — people walking up and down.
It was exactly 7 o'clock. I walked out of the room, unsure and unaware of where I was heading to. "If I don't stand to do what I should do fast, who will do it for me?" I told myself, "I think this place might be another cage…!" I walked out.
Ten minutes later, after a long trek, I arrived at the city. My mind told me I was being pursued. But, the thought soon left my mind, and I glared at the entire city. It was a very beautiful place. It was full of different colorful buildings and statues.
The street was all tarred, and every part of the passers-by's lane was paved with silver stones.
As I turned my head to the left side, I saw the people, walking up and down; vehicles were convening many of them, and I saw private cars as well, which I later learnt were owned by the rich businessmen.
I was stunned at the excellent grandeur I saw in the city! There were narrow and tall buildings at the minor roadside. Later, I saw another set of highly-raised blocks as well, built beside the road.
I had never visited such a beautiful place, save the time I was with my Alpha!
But, who I would go to see was a concern to me. "Where can I stay? I have no one to speak to, or even call here?" I talked to myself, as I carefully walked wherever my mind led me to.
So, I thought of where to go. It was my first time in the city. For about a minute, I stood on a spot and reclined on a soft but rocky area.
And then, an idea struck my mind!
I crossed the road and moved to where passers-by were standing and waiting for vehicles. Later, after surveying the road with my poor watery eyes, I realized the people were offering the drivers paper notes.
Since I had nothing on me to offer like such, I decided to just stand stiff and silent, beside them, as I watched.
"Are you traveling, buddy?" The driver asked me, but I looked away to avoid shame.
I recalled that a security man helped me cross over to the other side when I got there. Fortunately for me, as I reached the off the road, I saw a group of passengers with whom I could talk.
I didn't want to talk with anybody, because I didn't know exactly what to say. Who would I speak to that I knew?
But then, I seemed to have a whim – I became ready to just speak with one of them, and call their attention to my being stranded, at least — I would utter anything that came from my mouth.
I became so worried, I began to seek where I could be employed. I wanted to have what would keep me engaged and possibly earning, in the foreign land I had found myself.
Even though I was now willing to say a word to anyone close, and ask for help, I still felt shy.
"I…" After thinking about how to request help from someone, I turned back, and saw a lot of people who passed by my side, and deliberately shunned me.
I observed one of them who was scoffing at me, talking louding “She's got a quiet temper and she's also irritable!” I heard him clearly.
Later when I realized I could not stand the mockery and gossip they continued to hurl at me, I moved away but some of them still kept on hissing at me, blinking his eyes at me disgustedly. I decided to just look away, and then, I went straight on, distancing myself from them again as far as I could, and I approached a young lady.
She was seated under a tent which had my favorite color – sapphire. I was moved to see her, but when I reached her, I realized she had her back turned to me. I tapped her and she turned back suddenly, shocked.
“Oh!” She interjected, a reaction from the sudden tap. And then, I slightly pleaded to her. She actually seemed not to be upset, anyway.
“Hello!” She greeted me.
When I knew she was okay with it, I calmed down and I returned the greeting very warmly. “Hello…!” I welcomed her in response and added, “I greet you well, ma'am!”
“Hello… Yeah!” She responded, dropping the cup she was holding, from which she drank juice. And, then she asked. “Is anything the problem, young lady?”
“Please, ma'am” I replied, “I'm confused, here, in this place…” I was not able to utter my words completely, so the lady interrupted me. It seemed like she had understood what I was trying to say. She knew I was a stranger.
“That is to say, you are a stranger in this city, right?” She asked me, as she quickly offered me a seat. After doing that, she placed another cup of juice in front of me, for me to drink. She did not even wait for my reply to her question, as she took my welfare more seriously.
“Erm… I am Emma by name, and you?” She introduced herself. “And, I do hope you are doing well, now.”
“My name is Ariana Moses, but you can as well call me my first name, only — Ariana.” I responded quite formally.
I made a deep breath out, gradually feeling confident enough to talk with Emma, my new friend in the city.
And then, I thought of opening up to her, and requesting that we had a discussion thereafter, I asked her. “Please, can you do me a favor?”
Emma smiled, as she replied smiling. “Sure… I like your name though.” She looked at me again, suddenly and grinned another time, and said to me, “And, for your request… you are free to express your mind. Let us talk. I'm ready to help, according to my capability.”
“Thank you so much.” I thanked her, and began to discuss my matter with her. “I am so worried here. I don't know how I was brought to this place."
I narrated everything I could remember to her. I felt she was a savior to me. Later, I asked her a question. "Is there any work I can do to keep me engaged?”
Trying to avoid saying too much at the same time, I paused and waited for her to respond.
“Oh, you need a part-time job?” Emma asked me, dropping her cup of juice. She happened to be a famous and learned person in the city, by the way she talked. "I promise you well…"
Emma recommended a job to me. She advised me to take up a vacant post, which she knew about. “There is a hotel called Whitey Stone Hotels which is not far from here, actually. And they currently have a vacancy for a part-time job.”
“Oh!” I exclaimed, rather funnily and happily. “I'm interested in working there, please. What do I do for them at the hotel?” I asked her, my voice pouring out my mind very loudly, because I was elated.
“No worries about that.” Emma replied jauntily, “I see… sincerely, you have come here at the very right time.”
“Thank you!” I reacted happily, smiling.
“I am very close with the CEO of a hotel," Emma explained, and she had offered me an appointment for me to come over and see her, later this evening.”
“That is wonderful!” I appreciated her statement, happily.
“Wait, do you have an identity card with you, there?” Emma inquired, staring at me, as if she expected me to understand what she asked me, but then, she laughed. "Haha, goodness me! A foreigner with an ID?!"
When Emma noticed a change of mood in my face, and the way my eyes blinked uncomfortably, she asked me. “Hope there is nothing wrong?”
“Nothing wrong…” I replied, “I just don't have an identity at all here, not to talk of a card, ma'am…”
“Gosh! But at least, you will still have a foreign ID then…" Emma explained. "...from where you came, am I right?”
“I have none…” I was almost frustrated, in my response.
"Don't worry, I will get you one…" Emma promised.
The following day came, as days would always come, after days. I and Emma, had gone to see Mrs. Luciana Whitestone, the owner of Whitey Stone Hotels.
Fortunately for me, Mrs. Luciana had successfully achieved the task she embarked on, in providing a vacant post for me, in the hotel, as Emma announced to me.
"Good news, Ariana!" Emma exclaimed.
I became the chief waitress, and was tasked to schedule and monitor how the hotel guests would be nutritiously fed — nothing more than that.
I was also given the chance for part-time work. I could leave my duty post, as soon as I was on duty for six working hours every day. I was free to have time for myself, in order to attend to the other things that pertained to my personal life.
