chapter 48

1194 Words

Jace's POV No, there was no meeting. It may have been pretty obvious to Piper that it was a silly, low-effort excuse I used to escape her, but she wouldn't understand why it was so hard for me to lean into her. I sighed as her flushed face appeared in my head again. I tried to imagine what she was thinking in her head while watching me scurry into the car like a spineless coward. It would be useless to explain anything to her; besides, I wasn't going to pursue anything with her until our baby was born. I figured it was better to wait until the baby arrives before developing my feelings for her to reduce the risks of a complicated relationship. But just like other times, I was unable to get her out of my head. Piper was the only thing I could think of, even when I didn't mean to.
