Tyceln's heart hammered so hard in her chest as she walked in.
This is a bad idea. A terrible one that will either achieve her goal or turn into a disaster.
She has to play this right otherwise...
She detested Aubrey for pressuring her and entangling her children in this, but being Tyceln Brooks, she would not be defeated easily, so she made a deal with Aubrey to remove any online information about her. Fortunately, Aubrey only knows of her little princess, Ali, not her boys as spends more time outside with Ali than the boys. It was cruel to her little prince because of their striking resemblance they had with their dad; she didn't want to risk being seen with them except they were on facemasks.
The only good about the contract is that she got a s**t ton of money in the black card Aubrey gave her and who is she to turn down such kind of money when she needed it? Nope, in the past, she would have, but this money is her kid's, right? They deserve every bit of happiness and good things in life.
She caught the look on Alpha Four's face, the shock at realising who she was; watching as his face morphed into a rage. She couldn't stop the satisfied smirk that appeared on her.
Tyceln quickly broke their gaze and focused on Alpha Four's lookalike; he was only slightly older, and being a wolf, she was sure he'd been on Earth for several decades.
Dante King saved her the embarrassment of awkwardly going to stand there by meeting her halfway. “Lily Dear, you look even more lovely up close.”
A blush stained Tyceln's cheeks at the compliment. Childbirth made her body superb and glowy; she knew she wasn't bad-looking, but hearing it from someone in front of everyone made her shy. “You look dashing yourself honey.”
Honey?? Jeez, that sounds cringe. Her blush grew. It's all game Ty!
One minute, She and Dante were about to hug; the following minute, a force shoved her away from Dante, followed by a loud menacing growl.
It happened so fast that Tyceln blinked while trying to stop herself from tripping with these killer heels she had on.
Alpha Four's intoxicating scent wrapped around her as he stood in front of his dad, glaring at Tyceln demeaningly, “What the f**k are you doing here? Get out of my house w***e!”
Rude.
“Ryo!" Dante yelled stalking from behind him to Tyceln's side. ”You will not treat my guests like that. She's my soon-to-be bride, and this is my house, not yours. Show some respect!“
Ryo's wolf growled in response to being yelled at; shouting at the Alpha shows disrespect, a sign of challenge that his wolf was ready to take because Ryo's onyx eyes flashed with a yellow hue.
Everyone knew Ryo's wolf was unpredictable and could act up so Dante quickly lowered his head in submission as he grabbed Tyceln to his side.
“Have you met him before?”
Tyceln made her face as blank as possible and slowly shook her head. “Nope, an insignificant person like me wouldn't have the privilege to meet an oh gracious person like my dearest Alpha son, would I?”
Nervous laughter rang out, clearing a little bit of the tension in the room. She almost forgot there were people in the room.
She watched as Alpha Four's scowl deepened at the sarcasm. Oh what did Dante call him again, Ryo King.
Okay he's pissed.
She avoided his gaze for the rest of the evening (or she tried her possible best to)as Dante rested his hands on her waist and stirred her to the table to introduce her to everyone. Some faces she was familiar with, while others she was seeing for the first time. From their sneer and fake smiles, she knows she wasn't welcomed but was playing along because of Dante and, of course, the brooding Ryo. It was only Skye— a fourteen-year-old girl that seemed genuine.
“Didn't you say you had somewhere to be at?” a deep baritone suddenly spoke drawing everybody's attention to Ryo King.
It was Calyx, a friend of Ryo who had been silent the whole time. Tyceln had to admit that the moon goddess really has a favourite because why is he so hot? Unlike Ryo who gave off cold Dark Lord energy, his were charismatic and mysterious—a man with lots of secrets. And those tattoos crawling over his arms... Damn, focus girl.
The whole room held their breathe as they waited for his response, even she had to glance at him hopefully — the night would go so much easier for her if he leaves...
“Did I?” Ryo walked back to his seat that was directly in front of her, crashing her hope. “Plans change and besides, I wouldn't want to miss out on knowing more about my new mom.”
That was the beginning of her torment.
The air charged as their eyes locked in battle, no one backing down. Is it just her or was anyone else feeling hot? And where the hell is his shirt?
Not that she was looking (she wasn't!), but his biceps were huge, not to mention his six-pack and she would never admit it, but the black tattoo near the V in the deep of stomach was darn sexy. Her wolf struggled against the suppressant making her break contact with him and glance down at the food Dante dish in her plate.
“Thanks, honey,” she whispers with a smile as Dante leans in to flick her hair from her face.
“So what work do you do?” Ryo interrupted.
“Ryo, I'm sure we can question my soon-to-be wife after dinner; we have a lot of time.”
Ryo didn't back down, a smirk played on his lips as he waited. “Go on, talking while eating shouldn't be that hard, right Missy? Or you're too scared to say what you do?”
Coquettishly, Tyceln grabbed Dante's arm, “It's okay honey, you know how kids behave; I got this.”
Ryo growled at that, but she ignored him since, technically, he was way older than she was, but two could play this game. Since he wanted to make her uncomfortable, she'd do the same.
“I work at your firm, you know... R.K Int.”
Surprise flashed in his gaze.
Even Dante glances at her in surprise, making her nod affirmatively.
“That's not true; I know all my staff. Are you by any chance lying to us, Missy?”
Everyone at the table paused eating waiting for her response. Humph! If he wants her to say she works as a club attendant then he'd be so disappointed.
“You won't know of me because I don't work as a staff in your company; I work as a cleaner; I'm sure learning about your cleaners is too low for an Alpha like you, isn't it?”
“Absolutely!” he answered shamelessly as disgust took over his features. “what is questionable is the fact that a mere cleaner suddenly wants to be a King. Suspicious, don't you think?”
They kept going back and forth; Tyceln was sure he wanted to humiliate her in every possible way. What he doesn't know is that she has nothing to be embarrassed about; everything she has done was for her and her kids to survive. If anything, she was proud of it and attacked him back for the rest of the dinner. He gave up at some point and remained at the table glaring at her, but she pretended his presence was nonexistent, which pissed him off.
“So, how did you and Dante meet?” Ryo's distant cousin, Claire inquired. She is simply gorgeous, like those blondes straight out of a magazine.
Tyceln wasn't sure if she had any motive for asking that. She looked harmless, but as a King, she wouldn't underestimate her.
This was her first time meeting Dante. Tyceln glanced at Dante, wondering how she was going to answer that. Aubrey only stated that she attended this dinner by providing her outfit after signing the contract. ‘Only your performance after the dinner will determine if he'd marry you or not. It's a test he normally gives his other wife's.’
Well, it's been confirmed that this whole family is somehow sick and twisted in their way. Tyceln would have felt some iota of pity for them if she wasn't here to exert revenge.
“A while ago, we've been communicating,” Dante answered holding her gaze.
“Have you fixed your wedding date?” Skye asked excitedly. “I'll be the flower girl!”
“No sweetheart, Dante and I haven't discussed that yet.” Tyceln smiled.
With a huff, Ryo King stood up and walked out of the room making it easier for her to breathe.
Dante, on the other hand, kept piling food on her plate, wiping her lips, and putting any hair that escaped from her bun back in place.
A while later, she pushed the plate, despite it being the sweetest thing she had eaten in ages, and asked to use the restroom.
“Down the hall by your right.”
Nodding, she hurriedly left the room to the hallway. When it came to the interior, the King family overdid it. Everything screamed luxury and modern, the architecture of every angle was intricate and precisely done well. Goodness knows fortune was used in building this.
With a shake of her head, Tyceln found the restroom in no time and quickly used the loo. Her reflection stared at her as she washed her hands and to say she wasn't overwhelmed would be an understatement. She had thought of grabbing the table knife and stabbing Ryo in the neck so she'd be done with the whole revenge but the satisfaction wouldn't be there.
The same way he took his time breaking her bit by bit, she'd do the same. Turning on the faucet, she splashed water on her face sighing as she wondered how her kids were doing. She just wants to go home and cuddle their tiny bodies.
The creak of the door suddenly echoed in the silence making her pause. Thinking it was a door from a nearby room, she shrugged and splashed more water on her face, trying to delay as much as possible; the idea of going back into that room full of people made her shudder. Even as a single mom, she was introverted, and socialising with people gave her a headache.
Just like that, the hairs on her neck rose as she got a feeling of being watched.
Shivers ran down her back at the feeling of danger that she quickly turned off the tap.
She was not alone.
Damn it! Tyceln cursed herself for not paying attention and hurriedly wiped the water from her eyes.
The moment she did, her eyes clashed with his from the mirror.
Dark stubble covered his harsh square jawline. Tan skin stretch across wicked cheekbone. His black eyes were smoldering, lips curved viciously like he has her exactly where he wanted.
Tyceln slowly straightened while holding his gaze.
She was just about to turn around to face him when a word rumbled out of his chest causing tingles to spread in her lower tummy. “Don't move.”
Then he crossed the room to her.
