Erin didn’t know what to think when her phone lit up with Emily’s name. She asked everyone to program save her number when they were at her birthday party and had them all text her so she would have their numbers. Erin never thought it would be used.
“Emily? Are you okay?”
“Yeah. I…is it okay that I called you?”
Erin sat down, relaxing now that she knew Emily was okay. “Yes, of course. You’re safe, right?”
“Yeah, I’m safe. I’m at home. Dad’s still at work. I kind of wanted to talk to someone who isn’t, you know, like, my family. Is that okay?”
Erin nodded. “Yes, always. What’s going on, Em?”
She took a breath. “Do you remember me talking about Justin? We’re going to the Valentine’s Day Dance together.”
