I stand frozen for a heartbeat, staring at the locked door, feeling I should bang at it till it opens.
But I know it will yield nothing.
I take a deep breath and I look around. My gaze falls on a guard standing a few feet away. I move to him instantly.
“Hy,” I whisper, waving a hand to him. “Where is the training ground?..... Can you direct me to it?”
“I'm sorry miss…. But I can't leave my post.” he says, not bothering to throw me a glance.
Everyone here seems too stiff unlike in the east. The guards at the Alpha's lodge were friendly and jovial, at least with commoners like myself.
