Chapter 11 Liams pov

635 Words
I sat in my car, parked outside Emilia's apartment building, watching her through the window. I knew I shouldn't be doing this, but I couldn't help myself. I had to know she was safe. My mind wandered back to my past, to the memories I'd rather forget. Memories of Sophia, my ex-girlfriend. We'd had a toxic relationship, one that had left me scarred. Sophia had been beautiful, charming, and manipulative. She'd played games with my emotions, pushing me to the edge and then pulling me back. I'd thought I loved her, but looking back, I realized I'd been trapped in a cycle of abuse. The memories still haunted me. The fights, the tears, the broken promises. I'd thought I'd left it all behind, but being around Emilia brought it all back. I'd tried to push Emilia away, to protect her from myself. But I couldn't help the way I felt. I was drawn to her, like a moth to a flame. As I watched Emilia move around her apartment, I felt a pang of guilt. I knew I shouldn't be watching her, but I couldn't help myself. I had to know she was safe. I started the car and pulled away from the curb, knowing I had to leave Emilia alone. But I couldn't shake the feeling that I'd be back, that I'd keep watching her until I knew she was safe. And that's when it hit me - I wasn't just watching Emilia to protect her. I was watching her because I wanted to be near her. I wanted to be close to her. The realization sent a shiver down my spine. What was I doing? Why was I putting Emilia in danger like this? I didn't have the answers, but I knew one thing - I had to stay away from Emilia. For her sake, and for mine. As I put the car in gear and prepared to drive away, my phone rang, shrill in the silence. I hesitated for a moment before answering, knowing I shouldn't be talking to her. "Liam," Sophia's voice was like ice, cutting through me. "I see you're still playing games." I sighed, rubbing my temples. "What do you want, Sophia?" "You think you can just walk away from me, from us, and not face the consequences?" she spat. "You think you can break my heart, humiliate me in front of the whole world, and just get away with it?" I shook my head, feeling a familiar sense of frustration. "You're not blameless in all this, Sophia. You played games with me too." "Games?" she laughed, a cold, mirthless sound. "You were the one who cheated, who lied, who broke my trust." I clenched my jaw, feeling a surge of anger. "You were the one who manipulated me, who controlled me, who made me feel like I was walking on eggshells all the time." Sophia's voice dropped to a whisper, a venomous hiss. "You'll pay for what you did to me, Liam. You'll pay for making me look like a fool. I'll destroy everything you love, everything you'll ever love." My heart skipped a beat as I realized the depth of Sophia's anger. I knew I had to tread carefully, to avoid pushing her over the edge. "Sophia, calm down," I said, trying to reason with her. "Let's talk about this in person." But Sophia just laughed again, a cold, calculating sound. "You think I'm going to fall for that? You think I'm going to let you sweet-talk your way out of this?" I swallowed hard, feeling a sense of unease. I knew I had to end this conversation before it escalated further. "Sophia, stop," I said firmly. "Just stop." But Sophia just kept laughing, the sound echoing in my ears long after I hung up the phone.
