Chapter 9: Avoidance

829 Words
Emilia's days blended together in a blur of work and avoidance. She had made it clear to Liam that she wanted him to stay away, and she was determined to stick to her guns. As she went about her daily routine, Emilia couldn't help but feel like she was being watched. She would catch glimpses of Liam out of the corner of her eye, but whenever she turned to look, he would be gone. She started taking different routes to work, hoping to avoid running into him. She stopped going to her favorite coffee shop, fearing that he might show up there too. But no matter how hard she tried, Emilia couldn't shake off the feeling that Liam was still lurking in the shadows, waiting for his chance to pounce. One day, as she was walking home from work, Emilia saw Liam's car parked outside her apartment building. Her heart skipped a beat as she wondered if he was inside, waiting for her. She approached the building cautiously, scanning the parking lot for any sign of Liam. But he was nowhere to be found. As she entered her apartment, Emilia felt a sense of relief wash over her. She locked the door behind her and leaned against it, trying to catch her breath. But as she looked around her apartment, Emilia realized that something was off. The furniture seemed slightly rearranged, and the window was open, even though she was sure she had closed it before she left for work. A chill ran down Emilia's spine as she wondered if Liam had been in her apartment while she was away. She tried to shake off the feeling, telling herself she was just being paranoid. But as she walked over to the window to close it, Emilia saw a piece of paper on the sill. It was a note, scribbled in hasty handwriting: "I'll always be watching you." Emilia's heart skipped a beat as she realized that Liam must have been in her apartment after all. She felt a wave of fear wash over her, and she knew she had to take action. She quickly grabbed her phone and dialed the number of the local police station. As she waited for someone to answer, Emilia couldn't help but wonder what Liam was capable of. Was he really just trying to scare her, or was there something more sinister at play? Emilia's mind was racing with questions, and she knew she had to get to the bottom of it. As she spoke to the police officer on the phone, Emilia felt a sense of relief wash over her. She knew she wasn't alone, and that someone was there to help her. The officer assured her that they would send someone over to take a statement and investigate the situation. Emilia felt a sense of gratitude towards the officer and hung up the phone, feeling a bit more at ease. But as she looked around her apartment, Emilia couldn't shake off the feeling that she was being watched. She knew she had to be careful, and that Liam was still out there, waiting for his chance to strike. She decided to take some precautions, starting with changing the locks on her apartment door. She also made a mental note to vary her daily routine, so Liam couldn't anticipate her movements. As the day went on, Emilia found herself constantly looking over her shoulder, expecting to see Liam lurking in the shadows. She knew she had to stay vigilant, but it was exhausting, both physically and mentally. Just as she was starting to feel like she couldn't take it anymore, there was a knock at the door. Emilia's heart skipped a beat as she wondered if it was Liam, come to apologize or make amends. But as she looked through the peephole, she saw a police officer standing outside, a kind smile on his face. Emilia felt a wave of relief wash over her and opened the door, letting the officer in. As they sat down to take her statement, Emilia felt a sense of gratitude towards the officer. She knew she was in good hands, and that the police would do everything they could to keep her safe. But as she looked around her apartment, Emilia couldn't shake off the feeling that Liam was still out there, watching her, waiting for his chance to strike. She knew she had to stay vigilant, no matter what. The officer finished taking her statement and stood up to leave. Emilia thanked him profusely, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. As she locked the door behind him, Emilia felt a sense of determination wash over her. She was not going to let Liam intimidate her or control her life. She was going to take back control, no matter what it took. But as she turned to walk back into her apartment, Emilia saw something that made her blood run cold. On the kitchen counter.
