Another chuckle came from Brad. I imagined him laugh and a shiver ran down my spine. “Believe what you want, but she’s no different than any other stray.”
He said it with such finality that I almost believed him. Almost. But something didn’t sit right. He had mentioned an Alpha when we spoke, hadn’t he? I wasn’t mad—he had said it. I was sure.
But… was he lying now? Or had he lied to me?
I had been so sure, so convinced that Malakai, the Alpha of the Vipers, had something to do with my special treatment. That, perhaps, there was a reason, a purpose behind my protection. But now…
