He stared at the security camera, the fake tenderness in his eyes finally gone, leaving only a murky, hysterical gleam.

He lunged forward, but his leg gave out under his weight. He crashed face-first into the porch planks, his forehead hitting the wood with a dull thud.
"I bought that! It's mine! Every single penny came from me! Car, house, everything was mortgaged—that's all mine!"
He sprawled on the wood, his left hand curled into a fist that hammered against the floorboards. Every impact sent his whole body jerking upward, while his right leg dragged useless and motionless behind him.
The skin below his ankle was already completely black, a sliver of frostbitten, necrotic flesh peeking out over the edge of his pant leg.
