Alex's father, Richard, was sitting at the head of the dining table, sipping his morning coffee while reading the newspaper. He looked up at Alex as he entered the room, a stern expression on his face.
"Good morning, son," Richard greeted him coldly. "I hope you had a pleasant evening at the gala last night."
"It was fine, Dad," Alex replied, taking a seat at the table. "Why do you ask?"
"I saw you with Maya," Richard said, folding the newspaper and placing it on the table. "Are you two...involved?"
Alex felt a pang of anxiety in his chest. He knew his father disapproved of the rivalry between their two families, and the thought of him finding out about his growing feelings for Maya made him uneasy.
"No, Dad," Alex said, trying to sound casual. "We just bumped into each other at the event. Nothing more."
Richard raised an eyebrow sceptically. "Is that so? Because it looked to me like there was something more going on between the two of you."
Alex tensed, feeling a surge of anger rise within him. "I assure you, nothing is going on between me and Maya. We were just talking, like two normal people."
"Normal people, huh?" Richard scoffed. "Well, I hope you're not forgetting the history between our families, son. The last thing we need is another Romeo and Juliet situation."
"I'm well aware of the history, Dad," Alex said through gritted teeth. "But Maya and I are not our parents. We're adults who can make our own choices."
The tension in the room was palpable as Alex's father continued to scrutinize him. "I hope you know what you're doing, Alex," he said, his voice laced with warning.
Alex leaned forward, his hands clasped tightly together. "I do, Dad. Maya is a great girl, and I think there's something between us."
His father raised an eyebrow. "Something? What does that even mean?"
Alex hesitated, searching for the right words. "I mean, we have a connection. We get along really well, and we have a lot in common."
His father's expression remained sceptical. "And you think that's enough? What about her family's history with ours? Do you think that won't be an issue?"
Alex sighed, knowing that his father had a point. "I know it's complicated, but I think we can work through it. Maya and I both want to move past the feud and start fresh."
His father leaned back in his chair, studying Alex carefully. "Well, if you're sure about this, then I won't stand in your way. Just be careful, Alex. The last thing our family needs is to get caught up in more drama."
Richard gave him a long, hard look. "Just be careful, Alex. I don't want to see you hurt, or see our family dragged into another feud."
"And the last time I checked there is Sophie your Fiancee, or where do you want to put her, you had better put a reasonable check on that your stupid Emotions"
Alex nodded, knowing that his father's warning held more weight than he let on. But despite his father's words, he couldn't shake the feeling that there was something special between him and Maya, and he was determined to explore it further.
Alex's thoughts were interrupted by the sound of his office door opening. It was his assistant, Sarah, with a worried expression on her face.
"Alex, I'm sorry to interrupt, but you have a meeting in one hour with Drugwellness Pharmaceutical company. They just called and said it's urgent," Sarah said, handing him a file with the details of the meeting.
Alex sighed, realizing that he had completely forgotten about the meeting. "Thank you, Sarah. Please let them know that I'll be there on time."
Alex quickly scanned the file, noting the time and location of the meeting. Drugwellness was a key player in the pharmaceutical industry and their partnership could be a breakthrough for his company.
"Thanks, Sarah. Please inform the team and prepare the necessary materials for the meeting. I'll be there in a few," Alex said, dismissing her.
As Sarah left the room, Alex's mind raced with thoughts of the upcoming meeting. He knew the importance of this opportunity and he couldn't afford to mess it up. The meeting with Drugwellness was a crucial one, and he needed to be on top of his game. But at the same time, he couldn't help but think about Maya and how he wanted to see her again.
Feeling torn, Alex decided to take a quick break and stepped out of his office for some fresh air. As he walked through the bustling city streets, he couldn't shake off the feeling that he needed to see Maya again.
Finally, he made a decision. He would cancel his afternoon appointments and reach out to Maya for lunch.
As he walked back to his office, Alex couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement mixed with nervousness. He didn't know where this would lead, but he was willing to take the risk.
He picked up his phone and dialled Maya's number. He wanted to invite her for lunch at first but decided to do otherwise
"Maya, sorry to disturb you. Can we meet in an hour at the Drugwellness Pharmaceutical Company? It's a crucial meeting, and I think you could be of help," Alex said, hoping she would say yes.
Maya paused for a moment, considering the request. She knew the importance of this meeting and how it could affect both their companies. Besides, she was curious to see Alex in a professional setting.
"Sure, Alex. I'll be there," Maya said, feeling a surge of excitement at the prospect of working with Alex.
As Alex ended the call, he felt a wave of relief knowing that Maya would be there to support him. But little did he know that this meeting would bring about unexpected challenges that would test their partnership and their feelings for each other.
When Maya arrived at Alex's Office, She met him on a call and he signal for her to sit down.
Maya noticed the change in Alex's demeanour as he hung up the phone. "What's wrong?" she asked, concern etched on her face.
"it is about the meeting We are having with Drugwellness Pharmaceutical in an hour," Alex replied, his tone serious. "They're one of our biggest clients, and they're not happy with some of the delays in our recent projects."
Maya's eyes widened with understanding. "That's a tough one," she said. "But we can handle it together."
Alex smiled at her, grateful for her support. "Thanks, Maya. I knew I could count on you."
As they made their way to the conference room, Maya couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. She knew that Drugwellness was notorious for being difficult to work with, and its reputation for playing hardball was well-known in the industry.
As Alex arrived at the meeting with Drugwellness Pharmaceutical, he was greeted by the CEO and other top executives of the company. After exchanging pleasantries, they got straight to business.
The meeting began, and tensions were high from the start. The Drugwellness executives wasted no time in airing their grievances, and it became clear that they were not interested in hearing excuses.
"So, Alex, I assume you are here to discuss the potential acquisition of our new R&D drugs?" asked the CEO of Drugwellness.
"That's correct," Alex replied confidently. "Our company is very interested in the development of these drugs, and we believe that they have the potential to revolutionize the pharmaceutical industry."
The Drugwellness executives exchanged a look, clearly not convinced.
"We appreciate your interest, Alex, but we have decided that we are not yet ready to produce the drug. We believe that it still requires further development and testing," said one of the executives.
Alex was taken aback. This was not what he had been expecting.
"I understand your concerns," he said, "but we believe that we have the resources and expertise to bring this drug to market successfully. Perhaps we could discuss the possibility of purchasing the exclusive rights to the drug?"
The Drugwellness executives looked at each other again, seeming to weigh their options.
"Mr Alex, we appreciate your interest, but we are not currently interested in selling the exclusive rights to this drug. We believe that it has the potential to be a game-changer for our company, and we want to see it through to the end," the CEO stated firmly.
Alex felt his frustration mounting. This was a setback that he had not anticipated, and it would require careful strategizing to overcome.
Alex and Maya tried their best to address the issues and come up with solutions, but the more they talked, the more aggressive and confrontational the Drugwellness executives became.
Maya could feel her frustration mounting as she tried to reason with them, but they seemed intent on making things as difficult as possible. And then, to make matters worse, one of the executives made a comment that was intended to belittle her and question her qualifications.
Anger boiled inside Maya, but she forced herself to remain calm and professional. Alex noticed the tension in the air and spoke up, defending Maya and asserting her expertise in the matter.
The meeting ended on a tense note, with no clear resolution. Maya and Alex left feeling drained and discouraged, but also closer than ever in their shared experience of navigating difficult business situations.
As they walked back to their offices, Alex turned to Maya and said, "I don't know what I would have done without you in there. You were amazing."
Maya smiled back at him, feeling a warmth spreading inside her. "We make a good team," she said softly.
But just as they reached the door of their building, Maya's phone rang. It was her uncle, and she could hear the worry in his voice. "Maya, I need you to come home right away," he said urgently. "There's been an accident."
