Chapter3

Jeremiah's POV She's my mate. I had my suspicions when I first saw her and felt that burst of spark in my chest but then I wondered if it was just mere attraction on my part when she looked completely unfazed. But then my fingers brushed against hers when she handed the check to me and I knew right there that she was the one the Moon Goddess had gifted to me. The reason why she remains unfazed is because she has no idea that I'm her mate. She's a witch so she doesn't feel the mate bond. And it's also why my wolf couldn't recognise her as our fated mate, at least not until I touched her. He has been yapping and growling for her since then. As I grip her hand in mine and watch as the healer fusses over her, I wonder how it's possible for a witch and a werewolf to be fated mate. It has never been heard of before. With a sigh, I look at her beautiful face that's pinched with pain. I haven't left her side since I picked her up from the ground and carried her over to the house where I'm staying with my warriors. Then I had called upon a healer to come check up on her. We had to extract the knife from her side to ascertain how deep the wound was and it killed me to watch the way she screamed in pain as the knife left her body. The only thing that has stopped me from going out to stalk her useless ex-boyfriend was knowing that Seline needs me more. I make a mental promise to kill her ex-boyfriend as soon as she gets better. The healer rubs some kind of cream on the wound and starts bandaging her side. When she's done, she straightens up and looks at me with an expression that I'm not exactly a fan of. "Her wound was futile but thankfully, I was able to take care of it before she lost too much blood." My heart leaps into my throat as I stare at Seline's face that's still scrunched up in pain. "Will she be ok?" I ask around a swallow. "She will be fine. She should wake up by tomorrow and for the next few days, she's going to need to be on bed rest," she says firmly, pinning me down with a stern look. "That means no funny business." My brows furrow in confusion as I try to figure out the meaning behind her last statement. By the time the answer dawns on me, the healer has packed her bags and has deserted the room. I'm more annoyed at the fact that she thinks that I have absolutely no self-control than I am at knowing that she just assumed that we're together. Though she isn't exactly far off her mark. Once, Seline wakes up, I'm going to let her know about us being fated mate and hopefully, it will be easy to convince her to go back with me when I'm leaving this town. I just need to help this town leader deal with the terrestrial dispute that they're having with their neighbouring town and then I can head back to my town with Seline by my side. I rub my nape as I wonder if she has a family or someone special that would be a hindrance to my plan. While I'm still pondering over that, a soft knock is heard on the door. Unwilling to let go of Seline's hand, I let out a low, "Come in." The door opens to reveal Frank, my best friend and one of the warriors that I had taken with me. He looks down at my hand that's intertwined with Seline and his brows shoot up in surprise. He masks his expression with a clearing of his throat before finally meeting my gaze. "Is she ok?" He asks as he walks closer to the bed and winces when he sees the blood covering her torn-up waitress uniform. My wolf growls at the sight of a male seeing our mate in her barely dressed state but I force that irrational anger down. "The healer said she will be but I'm still worried," I tell him as I draw her knuckle to my lips where I place a soft kiss on it. Again, that surprise shows on Frank's face and this time he doesn't hide it. "I'm sorry but I just to address the elephant in the room," he says exasperatedly with his hands in the air. "Wasn't today at the café the first time that you met her? Why do you look so cuddly with her?" I scowl at him. "I'm not being cuddly with her," I say with as much manliness as I can mutter. He raises a brow as if to say, 'Who are you kidding?' I roll my eyes at my asshole friend and contemplate allowing him to stew in misery but I'm dying to tell someone about what an insane day I've had today. Starting from the very beginning of my day, I tell him about everything, and by the time I'm done, Frank is seated on the edge of the bed and staring at me in disbelief. He looks back at Seline and then at me. It continues this process for a few more seconds until I start feeling myself getting annoyed. "Look at her one more time and I'll gorge out your eyes and feed them to you," I grit out through clenched teeth. The lunatic smiles. "She's really your mate," he says. Then he looks back at her again like his eyes haven't just been threatened. "But she isn't a wolf so how is that possible?" He just voiced out the question that has been driving me mad ever since I found out myself. How is it possible that Seline is my mate when she doesn't have a wolf?
