The house was quiet when I returned Saturday evening and Nicole’s car was gone. There was a piece of paper stuck to the front of the refrigerator. Meg: We’re having dinner with Lars and his wife, not sure when we’ll be home. —N I took the note down and smiled, feeling just a little silly. I loved her handwriting. I folded the note, put it in my pocket, and proceeded to forage in the refrigerator. There was plenty of food left from the night before, so I prepared a plateful to take down to the guesthouse.
