I followed Opera Road and stopped before the turnoff into the gated community. On impulse, I decided to go by the theater first in case she was already in wardrobe. As soon as I got out of the car, I marveled at the sounds of a piano tuning up, hammering and sawing, and the voices of the men calling out lighting cues. There was so much more behind the scenes than most people ever knew, and at one time it was the most important thing in the world to me. I loved the energy of theater and the way people worked together to create magic. I reluctantly walked away from all that and chose a career in nursing instead.
