The assembled force opened fire on the demon, the creature bellowing in fury as bullets pounded it. After the first volley, it took another step forward and roared again in defiance, a strange mix of throaty roar and high-pitched squeal. Eva was forced to let go of Madden and cover her ears with her hands.
“Go!” Swanson mouthed at her, but Eva paused, looking back at the monster.
It crouched, arms spread wide and leered at her, teeth bared in the demon approximation of a grin. Hunching, the demon prepared to leap right for her and in that moment, even the portal on Mount Gehenna never seemed as final.
“No!” Yelled a voice, and Mike Caruso, a shotgun leveled, jumped in its path.
“Get out of here Dr Ross. Don"t let this mad act of an i***t be in vain!” Caruso began to fire at the demon,
