Rhea POV Kale didn’t smile. He just kept staring at me, his jaw tightening. Somehow, his silence pressed harder against my chest than his closeness ever did. I shifted on my feet, pretending to busy myself with the broken glass scattered on the floor — anything to keep from meeting his eyes. “I should clean this up before I cut myself,” I muttered, using it as an excuse to duck out. But he still didn’t move. After a few seconds he finally spoke. “Is it that same someone who paid your mom’s medical bills?” My entire body stiffened.
