“All marketing, all of it, boils down to this. You make your target feel they are either part of the right pack by owning your product,” he began, hovering his finger over pack. “Or they are vulnerable prey without it.”
His gaze lifted from the paper and pinned me in place. “Status or security. Belonging or fear. The textbook is wrong because it tries to appeal only to human logic. A man wants bread, the market however moves his hunger into a need. It tells him he isn’t just buying bread, he’s buying proof that he can provide, that he isn’t weak, that he won’t be the one left behind. That’s why those flowcharts don’t make sense. They forget people don’t buy with their brains, they buy with their insecurities. It is that simple.”
