The sun gradually rose above the horizon, its soft morning rays filtering through the curtains, casting a glow upon Belle's face. She stirred slightly, her dreamy eyes blinking before she fully awakened. A new day had begun -- the first day at East Hampton High School.
A mixture of excitement and nervousness welled up inside her. This was the first time she had truly stepped Hoyt of the bustling life of New York, seeking a major change. But would this change be as easy as he hoped?
Belle sat up, stretched her arms with energy, then woke into the bathroom to freshen up. She chose a simple yet confident outfit.
Downstairs, the kitchen was quiet except for the faint clinking of a lane on the stove. Belle quickly prepared a simple breakfast, a cup of coffee to keep her alert, and packed a lunch to bring along.
Before stepping outside, she opened the mailbox near the door. Inside, there was a small letter from her mother. Belle gently unfolded it and read the familiar words.
-"Have a wonderful first day at school! Love mom."
A slow smile graced her lips. She carefully folded the letter, slipping it into her jacket pocket -- almost like a lucky charm for this challenging first day.
Stepping outside, Belle inhaled the cool morning air of Montauk - a stark contrast to the noisy streets of New York she had lived in for the past sixteen years.
At the bus stop, several students were already waiting. Some were in lively conversation, while others silently scrolled through their phones, all preparing for the school day ahead. Belle stood still for a moment, observing everything around her.
A moment later, the distinctive yellow school bus appeared. Belle stepped onto it and found a seat by the window, eager to take in the scenery during the ride -- vast green fields, small coastal town shops, and glimpses of the peaceful life in Montauk.
She took out her camera, which she had bought herself before leaving New York, capturing the first moments of her new life.
As time passed, the landscape outside began to shift - larger buildings emerged, signaling that the area was vast, vibrant, and full of energy.
The campus was surrounded by lush green trees, creating an open and airy atmosphere. In the main hall, students gathered, chatting and laughing before class. Further ahead was the library, famously known as the "oasis of knowledge", with towering bookshelves and a spacious reading area.
Belle curiously scanned her surroundings, adsorbing the lively atmosphere of the place. but before she could continue exploring, a familiar voice sounded behind her -- a voice that instantly irritated her.
-" well, well. . . Didn't expect to see you here, princess!"
Belle froze, standing still for a few seconds.
She slowly turned around, and just as she had guessed -- Ryan was standing there, arms crossed, leaning against his motorbike, his gray eyes gleaming with amusement.
-" You?!!" Belle's eyes widened, almost unable to belie it.
Ryan let out a light chuckle, shrugging casually.
-" Surprised? Welcome to East Hampton High, Princess. Hope you weren't expecting a peaceful first day."
Belle clenched the strap of her bag, silently groaning in frustration: Fantastic! Not only is he my neighbor, but now also my classmate?!
Shaking off her irritation, Belle hurried to her classroom, determined not to let Ryan affect her mood any further.
Inside, Belle found a seat near the window -- a place where she could focus while still feeling somewhat at ease, but peace didn't last long. She quickly noticed Ryaan sitting right behind her, his expression filled with amusement, as if he were ready to stir up trouble atony moment.
-" What a coincidence, huh?" Ryan teased, his tone laced with mockery.
Belle sighed, replying ina cool tone. " Nothing about this is a coincidence -- just bad luck."
Before Ryan could retort, the teacher entered, beginning the lesson. bell swiftly shifted her attention, determined to ignore whatever antics Ryan had up his sleeve.
Just as Belle was about to take out her notebook, another voice chimed in beside her.
-" Hi, are you new here?"
Belle glanced up, seeing a girl with hazel-brown hair and amber-green eyes.
-" Yeah, I'm Belle Sinclair. Nice to meet you!"
The girl smiled warmly." I'm Julie. Welcome to East Hampton High! If you ever need anything, just let me know."
Belle let out a relieved breath -- finally, someone normal amidst all the chaos.
But her relief was short-lived, as the teacher suddenly called her to the board.
Belle stood up confidently, ready to answer the question, but before she could speak, Ryan's voice rang out from behind.
-" Careful, princess. Don't make a fool of yourself."
Soft chuckles erupted from a few students in the classroom. Belle felt heat rising to her face, but she refused to let emotions overpower her.
She calmly answered the question flawlessly, earning an approving nod from the teacher. As she returned to her seat, Belle shot Ryan a challenging glare, silently declaring:" You're not going to shake me".
Ryan merely smirked, but this time, said nothing more.
Had Belle just won the first round?
