Chapter 2
Hera's POV
“Sir please hear me out I can't lose this job this is my only means of surviving" I pleaded,
"Hera," he began, his voice low and strained, "do you have any idea what you've done? This restaurant was my livelihood, and now it's in shambles."
Tears welled up in my eyes as I stammered out an apology. "I'm so sorry, sir. I never wanted any of this to happen. Please, give me a chance to make it right."
He sighed heavily, his frustration palpable. "I wish I could, Hera, but I can't afford to. I have to let you go. And not only that, but I'm going to deduct the expenses for the damages from your last paycheck."
My heart sank even further. I desperately needed every penny I earned to support my mother and myself. Losing this job would be a crushing blow, and the thought of having my already meager salary docked felt like a cruel twist of fate.
“Please sir I promise it won't happen again give me another chance please, I'll work for every penny that will be used in renovating this please have mercy on me” I begged and pleaded with tears streaming down my cheeks.
“You heard them how are you going to make that amount of money in five days?“
“Sir-
“No Hera you've been an excellent employee but I'm not going to risk my business for your sake leave"
“Please” I fell to my knees holding his legs with my hands crying.
“Nothing will change you better leave now or I call the police” he warned pulling his leg away.
Helplessly I went to the back to get my things hanging the apron on the rack.
“Hera I am so sorry” Emily called out and rushed in to hug me. I sobbed bitterly in her arms and she comforted me rubbing my back.
“I didn't know about your mom's debts that is why you work so hard isn't it?“ she said, I sighed sadly pulling from her arms then wiped away my tears.
I didn't want anyone to know the condition my house was in, though the rumor spread like wildfire I'm sure people already knew about my drunkard mom.
“It's fine” I said taking my purse and files for my new job I had to get the job more than ever now.
“Here” Emily handed me her tip she made during the money I nodded in disapproval I wasn't going to accept that.
“Take it you need it more than I do” she urged in pain I hugged her tightly murmuring my appreciation through my sobs.
“Good luck on your job” she said I nodded and then left the restaurant.
Outside I hauled a cab with my phone I fixed my hair and tried to conceal my tearful eyes.
I had to look confident and suitable to get the job, not too long the driver stopped at my location I paid the fare then stepped down.
Desperation gnawed at my insides as I made my way into the building, it was a small marketing firm that dealt with cosmetics.
With a fake smile, I approached the receptionist trying to maintain a composed facade despite the chaos that had unfolded earlier. The receptionist eyed me with a mixture of curiosity and suspicion as I introduced myself.
"I'm Hera, I'm here for the interview," I said, my voice trembling slightly.
“It's over” she said sternly that wasn't right it was scheduled by two I was twenty minutes early.
“But ma'am it's one thirty” I enunciate nicely.
She looked me up and down, her gaze cold. "I heard about what happened at that restaurant of yours. You're involved with some rough characters, aren't you?"
“It was a misunderstanding-
“A misunderstanding we don't want, our reputation is our most valued asset we can't ruin it by letting you in” she explained.
"It was a terrible mistake, and I promise it won't happen again. I need this job to support my mother. Please, just give me a chance."
“Ma'am I'm sorry but there's nothing I can do about it you can take your leave"
“Please don't do this to me, don't judge me on some rumor please”
“Leave or I'll call security” she threatened my shoulders weakened but I didn't give up.
“I have nothing left please I promise you won't regret taking me a chance please”
The receptionist seemed unmoved by my pleas. She picked up the phone and dialed a number. "Security, we have a situation at the front desk."
My heart raced as I realized what was happening. Panic surged through me as a burly security guard approached. He gave me a stern look and gestured for me to leave.
"You need to go," he said, his voice firm. "We don't want trouble here."
“Please you do not understand I need this job” I begged at the brim of tears but the man stared at me emotionless.
“Ma'am leave” he said walking towards me then he pushed me I struggled in tears promising it would never happen again but it was futile he dragged me out the exit then pushed me away.
I stumbled losing my balance then fell on a man.
The luggage in his hand fell on the ground as he caught me the feeling in his arms was indescribable.
I felt safe in his arms pulling away slowly I cleaned my eyes gazing at his features close to that of a movie star.
I sucked in a breath as he spoke,
“I hope you're fine?“ he asked.
My cheeks turned red as I realized I was Staring looking at the dirt under my feet I nodded.
“You don't have to be shy with me” he uttered holding my hand gently I felt a shiver run down my spin and heat between my legs at his touch. I had an awful day, I had lost my job and blee opportunity to get a new one but in a weird way his presence made everything better.
“Who are you?” He asked circling his thumb on my hand.
“Hera” I rushed to say.
“Mate” he growled then my eyes widened.
