Chapter 4 I couldn't contain the tears in my heart, it weighed me down like I was bearing the entire world's burden in my chest. I haven't felt this betrayed before, I thought… I thought I'd met my mate, I thought I would receive the love I deserve, but then I was wrong. He doesn't love me any more, he doesn't want me anywhere around him. I rushed home, slamming the door against me. I tossed my bag on the couch, screaming in my voice as I pulled the flower vase on the table to the ground. I shattered on the ground but I didn't mind. "No! No, why?" I wept, my heart ached the more. I picked my phone from my bag, searching for Rita's number. Since there was no one in my life to talk to, Rita has always stood to be my comfort zone, the only one who has been there for me whenever I needed someone. On the first ring she wasn't picking and this bothered me the more. I kept pacing from one end of the room to another, listening to the vibrating tone of my phone as I kept calling Rita but to no avail. When I almost gave up trying, she called back. Without hesitation, I picked her call, placing my phone on my right ear. "What kept you so long?" I said without a 'Helo' "I'm sorry, hun. I was really busy, and I still am. I felt I should call back and check up on you." She apologized. "What's the matter? Did something happen at work?" "Rita…" the tears which had stopped falling clouded my eyes, blurring my vision. I stopped pacing, letting the tears fall freely down my cheeks. "I feel hurt and empty." "Hey. Hey, Hera. Talk to me, what's the matter?" She asked desperately. "What happened this time?" "It's George, Rita." I sniffled. "What about him?" "He… he rejected me just this morning. He said… he doesn't want me as his mate again because my wolf is weak. He said he doesn't associate with wolf-less omegas, he wants a strong woman for his life. Rita, my wolf isn't strong enough, I can never have him any more." I wept the more. "What am I going to do, Rita? I haven't been rejected before, it feels like my world is shattered now." I fell to the ground, my voice could be heard. "Look, Hera, I understand how you feel right now. I really do, and I also know how it feels to be rejected by your mate, it isn't what everyone desires. But…" She sighed heavily. "I don't know how it's gonna sound to you right now, but trust me, Hera, you have to forget about George." "Rita… I wish I could, but I can't. I just met George, and we were beginning to understand each other. All of a sudden, he just changed. I think he heard the gossip." "What are you talking about?" "There are a lot of people who hate me, Rita, he must have heard it from them." She sighed again. "That shouldn't be the reason why you have to feel this down, sweetheart. Most days are like this, not every day is a day of happiness. People find their mate, some people don't. People get claimed, some get rejected and it's all for a reason." I nodded my head. "Okay." "So, I want you to calm down, and let your heart take a break. Forget about George, forget about those moments you two shared or you'll end up getting hurt the most. Take your time, find a good job and live your life the way you want. It's gonna help, though it's gonna be difficult too." "There's this new company, I wanted to apply for a job there but… I thought it wasn't necessary." "Wow! Come on, Hera, don't say that. Get yourself ready and go apply for a job there. Show George you aren't like those bitches who will end up getting drunk just for a heartbreak." I nodded my head again. "Okay. I'll check the company out tomorrow." "Good. Now go take a shower, get some rest and prepare yourself for tomorrow. Okay?" "Okay. Thanks, Rita." "It's nothing. What are friends for? Good night, girly." "Goodnight." I cut the call, heaving heavily. Though it's gonna be a lot difficult to get over with the rejection, but Rita's right, I have to move on. I headed for my room to get all my credentials ready for tomorrow. I made sure everything we're complete, putting both the necessary and unnecessary documents in a brown envelope. I took a deep breath. "Let's see what fate has for you tomorrow, Hera." I said to myself as I stood before the mirror. — Morning came faster than I expected. I had set the alarm by six o'clock, but I found myself waking up even earlier than I thought. I walked into the bathroom for a quick brush and shower. Walking out of the bathroom, I went to the drawer to get my cream, rubbing it gently on my skin. I opened my wardrobe, staring at the clothes before me, with no idea of which one to wear. I picked my mini navy blue skirt and a white t-shirt which wasn't that unique like those expensive mistresses. I wore a slight makeup, glancing at myself. "You just have to act cool, no fear, don't freak out. We'll get this done once and for all." I encouraged myself, taking my handbag with me out of the room. I was sure I wasn't forgetting anything, I loved the door, heading for the junction. As soon as I got to the company, the manager was almost done with collecting the files of those who had come to apply for a job. I had thought I was early, seeing the crowds here made me know there are people who wake up as early as 1am. "You're late." She gave me a not so welcoming look. "Thank your stars." "Thank you, ma'am." I gave her my documents and she took it with her to the elevator. I went to sit with my other colleagues, letting fate decide my destiny. One by one, they began to call names for the interview. My once calmed heart started beating heavily, I tried to calm myself down but to no avail. "Stars Hera?" A young lady called my name as she walked into the waiting room. "Who is Stars Hera?" "That's me." I stood up. "Please follow me." If heart attack was a quick contact illness, I would have gotten one by now and probably be dead. I trailed behind her, we entered the elevator which let us upstairs. As soon as we got to the door, she offered a knock on the door. "Come in." She looked at me."Please go in, the boss is waiting." I took a deep breath, pushing the door open to enter. Upon seeing George, my breath seized and it's all like everything stood still for a moment. I turned to leave when his cold voice sounded behind me, "Where are you going?"
