The next morning, Alex's anxiety spiked as he watched
Anabel prepare for the day. Her bright smile and laughter only intensified his unease.
"Anabel, who's coming to visit today?" Alex asked, trying to sound casual.
"Brother, I don't know," Anabel replied, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "Maybe another suitor?"
Anabel's grip on his coffee cup tightened. "Another one?"
Anabel nodded. "Yes, brother. Mr. Charles from the neighboring Town."
Alex's mind raced. He couldn't let this happen.
As Mr. Charles arrived, Alex's hostility was palpable. The man's charming smile and polite gestures only fueled Alex's anger.
"Anabel, take a walk with me," Alex demanded, his voice low and urgent
"Brother, I—"
"Now," Alex insisted, his eyes flashing with warning.
As they walked, Alex's words spilled out in a frantic torrent. "Anabel, you can't marry him. He's not right for you. You're too good for him."
Anabel's expression softened. "Brother, I appreciate your concern, but—"
"No, Anabel!" Alex's voice rose. "You can't leave me. I won't let you."
Anabel's eyes widened, fear creeping into her expression.
"Alex, calm down. What's wrong?"
Alex face twisted in anguish. "Nothing's wrong, Anabel. Just promise me you'll never leave."
Anabel hesitation only fueled Alex desperation.
