The Wright mansion

1668 Words
Few days back before Todd's encounter with Natasha Todd's father had called his son's for a meeting and they wondered what it was about. Ruben was the first to show up and was about to take a seat when Todd walked in, they said their greetings and took their seats respectively as they awaited their fathers arrival. "Do you know what this is all about?" Ruben asked Todd disgruntledly, the last time they held a meeting it didn't end well and that was because their Father tried to force him into joining the family illegal business which is never gonna be possible. He isn't gonna join what he's hated since his birth. Ruben had always been against the family illegal business and each time his father talks about this it seems to fuel his disapproval the more. "Nah, maybe he's getting on his death bed, you know Dad doesn't just call for meetings, did you see how he walks now?" Todd replied mindlessly. He is the carefree type, his name is found in all the family's business and he still wishes to have more wealth to his name. Ruben wasn't surprised those words came out of Todd, it seemed more normal each time he had this talk with his brother and he was getting used to his silly talks. Couple of minutes later Mr Wright walked in, his golden walking stick which was carrying most of his weight made squeaky noises causing awareness of his arrival. The boys stood up to acknowledge his arrival and until he sat they remained standing. "Another meeting to ramble upon, how have you been father?" Came the teasing voice of Asher. He was just coming to the meeting, he pulled out a chair and sat down amidst his brother's piercing gaze. He is his father's favorite unlike Ruben who always goes against their father. "I have been well." Mr Wright muffled a reply as he jostled fully into his chair, he cleared his throat and passed the boys one long look before proceeding to tell them what the meeting was about. "I called upon this meeting to discuss the will with you my son's," he was still saying when Asher interrupted. "What's the doctor's report? You can't just break the news now-" Asher whined, bringing angry glares his way. "I am not dying Asher, get yourself together. I just want you boys to know that I wouldn't bat an eye to your wrong doings, you have to work in my favour else you won't be getting a cent from me." The room temperature suddenly became tense, Ruben knew his father was referring to him, who wouldn't when his sharp gaze was directed at him. "Ruben, you had better consider joining the family business or would you prefer I drop you off the list?" It was not a question but Ruben gave an answer anyways, "you can't lure me in with that father, my brothers are already doing so well in the family business why do I have to join?" He wasn't feeling himself anymore not after making that threat. "I have said what I said and you, Todd." A smirk crawled into his lips when he heard his name. "Dad, you know I only feel myself after leaving my mark on girls, I do everything you want, what else do you want from me?" "If you don't stop playing around with those women you won't get a cent from me." Mr Wright declared in an irritated tone. "Why?" "pfft... you might end up squandering your inheritance on women, why not call it quits already." Asher said to his astonishment, he would deal with him after this meeting. "Get a fiancée, only then will your name remain in my will or I might just end up willing everything to Asher," at the mention of that Asher pulled out a corky face at his brothers. "I guess I don't even have a place in my father's property, I will leave your presence at once father." Ruben said, rising to his feets. Mr Wright said nothing to him and just watched him leave. That night Todd wouldn't stop thinking about his father's words and as he had drinks with his friend on his mini bar he talked about his displeasure to everything. His friend, Noel was worried after his gloomy friend so he referred him to a night club which was popular around them. Todd who was a lover of clubs left immediately, he was amazed at how full and classy the club was. He was still exploring the club when a particular lady caught his gaze. He was sure she was the girl who everyone talks about. Normally he would ignore her but something keeps drawing him to her, maybe because of his l**t for pretty women or his father's words to get a fiancée. It took him quite a while to come to a conclusion and that was to offer her a proposal. It was Todd who'd paid for her huge debt after doing research on her and he knows about her sick mother too. So she needed money. Knowing she applied, he was the one who'd persuaded one of the managers not to give her the job cause he deems that'll provide her money to treat her mom thereby making his offer useless. By the time he approached her again so he's behind the scenes at her being denied the job. ***Back to present*** Natasha couldn't stop thinking about the mouthwatering proposal from Todd, it's somehow risky but who would know if she doesn't tell anybody about it. She doesn't want to involve herself in any other trouble but then again this will help her alot, especially as her mother's condition is getting worse it will help her get her life back. As she boarded a cab home all that was in her head was Todd's proposal, should she agree or not. She was now at Valerie's doorstep, she knocked politely and the door opened with the two friends smiling at eachother. Sitting besides each other, crunching popcorn Natasha told her about the mouthwatering proposal Todd offered her. Valerie was gobsmacked and dropped the popcorn to look at her friend, "you're kidding right?" Natasha has never told an extravagant lie but she is finding this hard to believe. "I couldn't believe him either but this is the Wrights we are talking about." "Yeah," she took her popcorn again, "more reason you should trust this Todd guy and get your life back." Valerie told her and Natasha took it as a time to tell her about her fears but Valerie told her not to ascertain to fear that this was the real deal. Perhaps it was a golden opportunity for her. It's every girl's dream to get into the life of one of the Wright brothers. Valerie took it as her job to convince Natasha to take the offer, "it is a one time thing and if you lose it this time you lose it forever. Girl if I was in your shoes I will be dining with the Wrights now, at least think of your mom." Natasha thought about Valerie's words and realized she was telling the truth, if for anything she should be grateful to Todd, if not him she would still be working as a server for Joe. Twirling the contact card Todd gave her she decided to do what's best for her. Finally, Natasha called Todd and told him she was accepting the offer. Her mother's bills were paid by Todd. Though this was like a business contract but still she expressed her gratitude to Todd. Todd knew she was going to call, there was no way she wouldn't especially after doing her such a huge favour, he told her to get dressed so that he was coming to pick her up. Natasha had wanted to decline but she just accepted the offer so it's normal for him to take her to his family's mansion, right? With this thought lurking on her mind she got dressed and waited for Todd outside her apartment. It didn't take long for Todd to drive in, he held out the door for Natasha to go in and resumed his driving position. Natasha had managed to make an impression in Todd's eyes, if not for the fact that the road was busy Todd would have stared at her all day but that doesn't mean he wasn't stealing glances at her. Todd took her to his mansion-the Wright mansion and there was a party going on, one look at the guest you would need no one to tell you it was a family party, more like the Wrights party.the Wright was having a party. As they stepped into the big parlour all eyes were on them, maybe because she and Todd were holding hands and almost sneaking into each other. It was all an attempt to make them think they are dating. They barely walk any steps before an aunt or uncle will come by and Todd will start by introducing her as his fiancee, so many minutes were spent on Todd introducing her to the so many guests in their mansion. And each time she's been introduced she tries to appear sweet and her smiles never leave her face for once. Truth was she was tired and her sharp stilettos weren't even helping issues, her feets hurt so damn bad, how long can she keep up with this. They stopped by to get a few drinks and Natasha decided to ask, "until when are we going to continue doing this? It's becoming draining." "Just hang in there a little, princess, Mr Wright will soon notice us." He cooed. Just then his phone started to ring and he let go of her hand, dipped his hand into his pants pocket and brought out his phone, "I'm sorry I have to take this." He pecked her cheeks and walked a few distance to take the call.
