IVY
I couldn't sleep.
For half the night, I tossed, turned, and rolled on the bed, trying and failing to fall asleep.
I thought scrolling through the phone would help, but my social media feed just kept feeding me with kissing quotes, and actual kissing videos.
Out of frustration, I almost slammed the phone against the wall. I caught myself just in time, and only seconds later, was super grateful I didn't surrender to my impulses.
“Damn you Vladimir Bratva!” I swore over and over again.
It wasn't enough for him to be damned. I needed to dance on his ashes after he was completely finished!
“Evil man! Wicked, brutal, barbarian!”
Everything was his fault. I had not known peace from the moment the existence of Vladimir Bratva became known to me.
As if it wasn't already a humongous deal that I was tied to him in the most legally binding way, I also had to deal with my family history.
At the ripe age of eight, my sleepless nights used to be filled with thoughts of my parents being some super royalty, with a kingdom.
Naturally, I was their princess.
In my teenage years, I slowly replaced my father's face with another mother, because grandma said mine wasn't s**t.
I was still a princess, living in an air castle from my imagination.
But now, the truth was out.
I wasn't no damn princess. Heck, I wasn't even a duchess.
My father was a mafia lord, and my mother stuck by him.
The circle didn't break, because I was now married to a mafia lord.
Only God knew how he lived. If he was so audacious to boldly kiss me, then surely he was an arrogantly bad man.
“All circles back to the kiss huh!” A voice in my head said.
“That's exactly right. He should never have done it. He ruined me!” I almost yelled out.
From the corner of my eyes, I saw it was almost four in the morning.
“I'm going to make his life miserable. I'll make sure he regrets getting married to me. Just watch. He will be the one to chase me away when I'm done with him. Evil, hideous, bastard!”
“Hideous?” The voice dwelled on.
“Yes hideous!”
“If you say so.”
I did say so. I wasn't sure why my heart was beating erratically, but I meant what I said.
He and his blonde hair were completely hideous!
With that declaration, I closed my eyes tightly, forcing myself to sleep.
Sleep didn't come until dawn began to creep in. But not even in my sleep did I get any rest.
Millicent showed up the second it got deeper.
She started from my ears this time. Stroking them with her feathery fingers.
By the time she got to my chest, I was already perspiring.
Her grip tightened around her favourite spot, and expertly, she began to press.
“No, please no,” I begged, forgetting my dissatisfaction was ecstasy for her.
Millicent's grip on me tightened to the extent I couldn't breathe anymore.
My body began to thrash everywhere, trying to escape her hold..
She pulled me back in place, and pinned me down.
This was the part that was usually pure torture, because I couldn't move anywhere..
I usually just had to surrender to her mistreatment.
It would last from a couple of minutes to sometimes, longer minutes.
“Please,” I begged one last time, whilst suffocating.
The air was leaving my lungs now. Soon, it would be ashes to ashes-dust to dust.
“Maybe it's finally time,” a distant voice whispered.
Cackling followed.
Not only was I being unjustly punished, I was also being mocked for it.
The urge to cry overwhelmed me, and I just let it out.
Tears dropped down my eyes.
With every tear, I grew closer to total unconsciousness. Maybe even death.
Too weak to keep on fighting, I let go, and let fate.
“Bride? Bride, wake up! Bride!”
The voice was equally distant, but I heard it in my state of almost unconsciousness.
“Hey? You have to wake up.”
I felt that touch. It was soft, and warm.
Millicent clearly felt it too, because her grip on me loosened.
“Wake up okay? You have to wake up.”
With every touch from the new, strange voice, Millicent's hold loosened even more..
Soon, I was able to move a little. That little movement gave me the strength to open my eyes.
I pushed, and my eyes popped open.
“Bride? Are you awake? You're fine now. You're fine,” Anna said in tears, as she held my hand.
My face contorted in confusion..
It wasn't Anna's hand I was feeling in my static state.
The hand that touched me was much softer. Even the way the voice spoke.
“Give her some space, Anna. I'm sure she's a bit overwhelmed.”
My head shot up as I heard the exact same voice.
There she was!
My eyes stumbled on the owner of the warm voice, and warmer touch.
A beautiful woman with kind eyes, and thoughtful tongue.
“Hello,” she waved at me, with a smile on her face. “I'm Isabella. Isabella Gambino.”
I inhaled sharply, Grandma's words returning to me in a flash.
“The Gambino's are terrible!”
Confusion knitted my brows. Why was a Gambino in the house of a Bratva if they hated each other?
Perhaps, for the same reason I was here?
There was no doubt in my mind that the beautiful woman was perhaps one of Vladimir's wives.
Which begged the question, how many women were in his life?
What number was I? Why the hell did he kiss me?!
“You seem to have trouble sleeping,” the beautiful woman continued speaking. “If you let me, I'd like to help you overcome that. I haven't used my degree in mental health therapy in a while, but I could still tap into it when I need to. Would you like for me to do that?”
She sounded so kind. I didn't want to dislike her.
Why would I even dislike her?
It didn't make sense why I was hesitating, when she was offering what sounded like genuine help.
“Jealo–”
The door opened before that stupid voice in my head could get its thought out, and my grandma ran in holding her special balm.
“I had a feeling you might encounter Millicent tonight, so I brought–” she stopped at the side of my bed, and turned her head behind. “Who are you?” Her question was directed at her.
“Isabella Gambino,” she stepped forward, stretching her hand respectfully. “I'm a really big fan of your Ms Greene.”
Grandma eyed her hand, and my heart collapsed, knowing for sure the woman's heart was about to be broken.
“Get out!” Grandma commanded harshly.
I was instantly proven right..
