The following day, Theo and I left the pack and headed to New York.
"You look hot today Theo, do you have someone you plan on impressing in New York?" I teased making Theo chuckle.
" I want to impress my princess." Theo replied, making me chuckle.
After driving for hours, we arrived at a villa located at the outskirts of the city.
The villa was secluded but surely, very classy and beautiful if I might say
The villa exuded an air of elegance and sophistication. It was surrounded by lush green plants and an unkempt flower garden which had already dried flowers. From the look of things, I could tell it's been long since someone lived here.
" Why do you have a house here near the city?" I found myself asking.
" This used to be my hiding area when I wanted to escape from everything in the pack." Theo said, fumbling through his pants pockets and retrieving his keys.
" Come on in, I'll contact my resources from here then we can know what to do next or where to start our investigation." Theo offered, taking my hand.
With a warm smile, I accepted Theo's hand and stepped inside the villa.
There was nothing classy about the interior of the house and if I might say, it was kinda gloomy.
We spent the night planning our next move.
When morning came,we had our breakfast and bid each other goodbye.
Theo was headed somewhere he did not bother telling me. He said he will be meeting with someone who can aid us in our investigation.
I was headed to Mark's place. Unlike Mason, Theo understands that Mark could be a good source of the information we so much want.
He allowed me to go on one condition, Mason will not hear about my visit to mark.
He said he trusts me and knows I'll never betray them.
I know he's jealous, especially given that I have history with Mark but I thank God he is rational.
I disguised myself before leaving the house. Of Course,I won't let anybody identify me. I can't afford to get arrested, not without unravelling the truth.
With my bob wig and blue contact lenses, I completed my look by wearing dark shades.
I will be riding Theo's racer bike. It's more convenient than a car
After twenty minutes of riding, I parked my bike outside Mark's condo unit.
It was still seven in the morning so I knew I would find him around.
Ringing the bell,I waited for a while before the door was opened.
I was expecting to see Mark's face but what greeted my eyes was some blonde in a bathrobe.
" Where is Mark?" I asked, without beating around the bush.
The blonde regarded me with hostility in her eyes before assuming the akimbo posture on me.
" What do you need my boyfriend for?" She asked, sending glares at me.
I fought the urge to roll my eyes at her absurdity.
" That's none of your business. I want to meet Mark." I replied coldly. I was not here to exchange pleasantries or words with some random woman.
" What if I don't let you in?" The lady asked, making me smile at her.
" Then I'll just let myself in." With that, I punched her neck with the side of my palm, rendering her Unconscious.
She fell limply in my arms and I carried her Inside, placing her on the sofa.
I was about to stand up when I felt something being pressed at the back of my head.
" Stay where you are or I'll shoot you." Mark warned, making me chuckle.
" Are you sure about that Mark?" I asked and immediately, Mark lowered the gun.
" Melissa!" Mark called in disbelief.
The look on his face would have made me laugh if I wasn't here on a serious business trip.
" The one and only!" I said,a smile gracing my lips.
" Long time no see, officer Mark!" I greeted making Mark smirk.
" You have not changed one bit Lisa." He said playfully.
That's Mark for you. He's a natural flirt,no wonder I fell for his sweet words.
" And I see you are the same old Mark, charming ladies with your sweet mouth." I said. I didn't mean anything by my words but why did it sound like I was jealous?
That's impossible! How can that be?
I have mates now and I love them so much.
Besides, Mark is nothing compared to Theo or even Mason.
" You disappeared without a trace Melissa!" Mark argued but I stopped him from going any further.
" What we had was over long ago. Besides, that's not the reason I am here." I said.
I don't want to sound like some jealous girlfriend. Whatever Mark decides to do with his life is none of my f*****g business.
" Have you found any new developments about the case?" I asked and he shook his head.
" Everyone thinks that it's you who is behind the crimes. There's a bounty placed on your head." Mark says.
" Tell me something that I don't know. I want to know who is handling that case now. Is there a new development? I must get to the bottom of this." I say and I catch Mark staring at me, strangely
" What?" I snapped at him. I can already tell what he is thinking about.
" Tell me honestly Melissa, do you know anything about these murders?" Mark asks.
As expected. Even he doubts my innocence.
" Will you believe me if I say that I know nothing about all those murders?" I ask, looking straight into his face.
Mark regards me for some time before turning to look away.
" I don't know what to believe anymore. That day, you said something strange and then, you were accused of killing your parents to silence them. I honestly don't know who is lying and who is telling the truth. The little time we spend together, I realised that you have a high sense of justice. You are not that kind of a person, but the evidence… I'm confused." Mark says and I can see he's torn between believing the evidence and giving me the benefit of the doubt.
" The truth will come out with time. I want you to do something for me."
