Chapter 7
Benny met Emily at the movie theatre in Missoula Sunday afternoon for their second date. Benny wasn’t dressed as nicely as he had been for dinner the week before because it was a more casual setting, but he was still dressed nicer than he would have been if he’d been going with Kent or Danny. He’d guessed, and guessed rightly, that he’d have to pass his father’s scrutiny before leaving the house and was dressed as much to impress him as Emily.
Emily too had toned down her choice of outfit, arriving in leggings, a tunic-dress, and light sweater all in slightly washed-out neutrals. Benny supposed she was going for a cohesive color palette but the whole thing, combined with her hair color and neutral make-up, made her look bland, like a desaturated photograph.
