CHAPTER FIVE

1022 Words
Ethan is a young human who grew up on the outskirts of Timpa, away from the dangers of the city and the nearby forest. His step father is a werewolf who married Ethan’s mother, who is a human. His step-father, Gamile, is a farmer with his wife, Contal, who is Ethan’s mother. They have both taught Ethan the value of hard work and compassion. Ethan’s father chose to stay away from the city to live in the outskirts of Timpa because of the identity of his wife, who is a human. Gamile has to keep his wife's identity as a human hidden from the other villagers, especially the werewolves. In Timpa, humans are seen as a threat and are often hunted or punished by werewolves, particularly under king Jaxpon reign. Even though it has always been like that, Jaxpon heightened it. Contal is well-versed in herbal remedies from her own village and she knows how to mix potions that can mask Ethan’s human scent, allowing him to move freely among werewolves without detection. . Ethan is aware of the risks involved in revealing his true nature, so he has learned to blend in with the werewolf society, disguising his scent and avoiding direct sunlight, which could give him away. They stayed there, living a lonely life until, when Ethan was old enough, he started traveling to the market in Timpa to sell his family’s produce. It was there that he first met Ava, and he was struck by her beauty and kindness. Ava and Ethan sat together by a small stream, listening to the water trickle over the rocks. The moonlight casts a silvery glow on their faces, and the surrounding forest is quiet and still. Ava:“ Ethan, I need to tell you something. I can not keep lying to Hava and Jonathan about us They deserve to know the truth.” Ethan’s expression was serious, his blue eyes reflecting the moonlight. Ethan: “ I understand, Ava I think you should tell them, Ava. I know it is dangerous, but they deserve to know. I will be here to support you, no matter what happens.” Ava: “ but what if they reject us? Or worse, what if they tell my parents?” Ethan wraps his arm around Ava’s shoulder, pulling her close. Ethan: “We will face whatever comes together, Ava. You are not alone in this Ava. And I do not like it when you think you are alone in this. We are a team, you and I. And together, we can weather any storm.” Ava: “You really believe that, don’t you?” Etha: “ I do I believe in us, Ava.” Ava lets into Ethan’s embrace, her head resting against his chest. She felt a sense of peace was over her as she listened to the steady beat of his heart. Ava: “There is something else you should know, Ethan.” Ethan:“ what is that?” Ava: “ I have already told Hava and Jonathan about us. I could not have kept lying to them and I told them about everything happening in my life.” Ethan freezes and, for a moment, Ava worries that she has made a mistake. Ethan:“ then why did you make it seem you have not told them?” Ava:“ I was scared, so I wanted to know how you would react before I told you about it.” Ethan:“ I can never be angry with you because you want to tell them about us.” Ava:“ I also told my friends about you” Ethan: “You told them? Ava, what were you thinking?” Ava: “ I know it was a risk, but I could not have kept lying to them. I felt like I was betraying their trust, and they also told me about their love story. I also want to feel among them.” Ethan: “ I get that, but Ava, you have put us both in danger. What if they tell someone else?” Ava: “They will not They were angry at first, but they understand now. They want to meet you, Ethan.” Ethan: “They want to meet me? That is not a good idea, Ava. It is too risky.” Ava: “ but they are my friends , EHATN. And they are your friends now too. They need to see that you are not the enemy.” Ethan: “Ava, I am not sure that this is a good idea. What if they do not accept me?” Ava’s bed is nestled in a corner of the cave, sheltered from the wind and rain. The bed is made of woven reeds, collected from the forest by Ava’s brothers and her father. The reeds are soft and pliable, and they have been braided into a sturdy mat that provides a layer of insulation from the cold, damp floor. A few animal bodies are draped over the bed, adding warmth and comfort. Ava lies on her bed, her mind racing as she remembers she will meet with Ethan. Her band trace the braided reeds that make up the bed, her fingers brushing against the animal bides. Ava: “He is unlike any human I have ever met before. His eyes were warm and friendly, and he seemed genuinely interested in learning about my life.” Ava’s heart flutters as she recalls his smile. As the moon rises, Ava quietly slips out of the cave, her heart racing. She knows she shouldn’t be doing this, but she cannot get Ethan out of her mind and can not disappoint Ethan by not showing up for the show. She makes her way through the forest, using the moonlight to guide her. As she was walking through the town. She reaches the clearing where she agreed with Ethan to met, and her eyes search the darkness for any sign of him. As she stood there, her ears were suddenly alerted by a sharp snap of a twig. She whirled around in alarm to find an unfamiliar face staring back at her.
