Vladislav remained still for a suspiciously long time. It was obvious this was the last thing he thought they would be discussing. Allegra tried to stay quiet to give him room to respond, but her patience soon flew out of the window.
“Well?” she demanded. “Are you going to explain yourself?”
“I do not need to explain myself,” he finally said. You are this nation’s future queen. Surely the thought of you having protection at all times has already crossed your mind.”
“Of course it did,” spat the Duchess. “But I’ve been here for weeks now and you never assigned anyone to do the job. You didn’t feel the need to. Now, all of a sudden, you think I need that protection just because we have fae in the castle?”
