Allegra's heart felt like it was beating a million times a minute. She allowed Vladislav to pull her along until they reached the entranceway to her family’s wing. She knew they had to climb a couple of sets of stairs to reach her parent’s room – or the lounge her mother and sister were most likely having their morning tea in. Before they began their ascent, however, she wrenched her hand from her vampire’s grip and took a couple of steps away from him. He rounded on her and came closer, insistently reaching for her arm again, but she moved back once more and shook her head no. He stopped, hesitating at the look on her face.
“Vlad, you aren’t acting rationally right now,” she said gently. “I don't think you've thought this through. This is not a good idea.”
