Chapter 1:
Link has found the perfect job, perfect guy, perfect grades and has the most perfect life. So she thought as she strode down the all glass staircase into an all white and marble kitchenette. Her father was waiting for her there with a giant platter of food. Link raised her eyebrows in shock as she approached her father.
"It actually smells good in here today!" She laughed. Her dad smiled and handed her the plate. She grabbed it and sat down hungrily at the table.
With a mouth full of pancakes, she looked up at her dad "So, who died?" She asked jokingly. Her father never cooked, and he only smiled when he was nervous. Something was up and she needed to know now.
He cleared his throat and tugged at his necktie.
"Its your mother, s-she was found in an abandoned house..dead. " He held his head crying hysterically.
Link dropped the glass of orange juice she held and stared into her hands as tears filled her eyes. All she could hear was her father crying and screaming her name. The next thing she saw was blackness.
Link
Emptiness. Blackness. Thats all i could see when i opened my eyes. A sharp beeping noise in the background clouded my thoughts. I could hear people moving around me yelling orders and numbers to each other. Trying to focus i sit up in what feels like a bed. I feel my face and there are bandages over my eyes. I start to panick when i hear my father yelling at someone. I called out to him as I cried underneath my bandages. What was going on? Why was this happening? How'd we go from our house talking about..my thoughts trailed back to the news my father had given me before all this. My mother! She was..dead. I threw myself back onto the bed and cried even harder. My mother was gone. Mine. Gone. Before I had time to panic again, i felt someone next to me rubbing my head and whispering in my ear. "I'm right here with you my love. Stay strong until we meet again." A soft kiss touches my lips and I fall into a deep sleep.
Chapter 2
Mio
"So Mio, have you had any other dreams lately?" My therapist asked me intently. We'd talked about random dreams I was having almost every night a few weeks ago. I told her they stopped because I wasn't too sure they meant anything. But lastnight I had a dream that felt way too real not to tell her. I took a gulp of my scotch and scratched my beard.
"Look I always thought the dreams were just some bullshit tv s**t. Like I been watching too much reality tv or some. But last night I dreamed I was in this crowded ass hospital with about 20 doctors and nurses running around. They were yelling for each other to do stuff and I heard this man yelling about his daughter. They escorted him out of the area and I walked into the room they were yelling in front of. When I pulled back the curtain it was her. The girl I saw in all my dreams in the war. Except she had bandages on her eyes. I could literally feel my heart aching to see her like that. I walked to her bed and put my hand on her. I whispered something in her ear, and I kissed her..." Trying not to sound too excited about it, I cleared my throat "I kissed her and then I woke up." I said in almost a whisper. Still feeling her lips against mine, I hide my face in my hands. My therapist doesn't speak for awhile and I grow impatient with her silence.
"Maybe it doesn't mean anything at all Mio, or maybe it means everything. " She says over the brim of her glasses. She'd always looked at me like that during our sessions, but this time a green light seared through her eyes. I blinked twice and wiped my eyes.
"Doc are you ok?" I ask trying to understand if i was tripping or not.
"I'm fine Mio. What I want you to do is find a bookstore or library and search for books about dream interpretations. In the meantime, I'll up the doses on your meds to help you sleep better. Take care of yourself Mio, pick up your prescription from Gloria at the front desk." I was already out the door before I could hear the rest of her conversation. One thing she said today woke something up in me. I was going to find out the reason for the dreams and what that glowing s**t was in Doc's eyes, s**t was hella creepy.
I grab my car keys out my pocket and ask siri for directions to the nearest bookstore.
As the days dread on, Link goes through a large series of tests at the hospital. She'd spent 3 months in the I.C.U with three broken ribs. She never felt such pain before in her life. All she could think about was her mother when she was concious. Her father was always by her side everyday at the hospital. He never left her. Each night he prayed over her and brought something from her mother's closet.
Link was just waking up when her father walked in.
"Link honey? Are you awake?" He asked as he slowly entered the room. He was sweating and breathing hard. His eyes widened when he saw Link sitting upright in the bed holding her head.
"Link honey!" Eyes filled with tears, he grabbed her gently in his arms and held her as she quietly cried in his arms. They both cried. They didnt use words, they just cried. Link was in so much pain that she could barely sit up.
