CHAPTER 8: The Past Revealed – (1)

(3 PM)

*Hojun’s POV*

Ringg…Ringgg...

“Ugh, hello?” I picked up the call while collecting my life.

“Mr. Hojun, this is Detective Kang from Gangnam Police station. We found their base camp. Please come to our station immediately” he said.

“Alright detective, I’ll come as soon as possible. Thank you” I hung up.

I looked at Danbi who’s still sleeping next to me. I stroked her hair carefully before I go to change clothes.

“Where are you going?” Danbi woke up and asked me.

“The detective found their base camp. I want to go to the police station now” I answered.

“I’ll come with you” she quickly got up and she went to her room to change clothes.

(at the police station)

“Their basecamp is on the Incheon Zhonghua street. It’s actually not in the map. So for now, we don’t really have a precise coordinate, but from what I see, it’s behind this Chinese restaurant” the detective showed us a picture of a Chinese restaurant.

“What’s your plan?” asked detective Kang.

“I will send my team to closely explore this area, and I will send the coordinates to you. But for now, we will come to Yurihan building first. Thanks for your hard work, I’ll call you soon” I said to the detective.

Danbi and I headed to Yurihan building. Danbi looks concern,

“Are you alright?” I asked her while holding her hand.

“I just… feel nervous. They are a dangerous gang, should we just send the whole team?” she asked.

“Don't act rashly, it could be a trap. We have to guard Yurihan and hospital as tight as possible. But are you sure you’re going to do this?” I asked her.

“I will. We’re Alpha team right? Then we are the front line in any situation, and I’m not regretting any of this. As long as I’m with you, I think we can beat anything, anyone…” she smiled at me.

I smiled back at her. She’s on fire, and so do I. She’s right, as long as we have each other’s back, we can beat everything.

(at Yurihan building)

“Alpha Team & Bravo team, please listen to me carefully. We have a hint of their base camp. It’s on Incheon Zhonghua street, from what the detective said, it’s behind this restaurant. Their base camp is not in the maps, so we will investigate, stalk, and watch them closely. Don't act recklessly, and don't look flashy, wear clothes like ordinary people. According to experience, it is certain that there will be gunfire with members of armed gangs. After this briefing, immediately take the weapons you need and go to the location. Any questions?” I asked the Bravo team.

“NO SIR” they answered strongly.

“Dismissed” I said, they quickly left to the residence and take their weapons.

(on Incheon Zhonghua street)

When we arrived, everything looks normal, we looked round. We found an abandoned building behind the Chinese restaurant, but there are no signs of gangs or armed groups. Danbi and I sat on a café near the building to track them.

Meanwhile the Bravo team spread out over several areas to see if there are other possible areas as their base camp.

An hour has passed, we ordered food and drinks at the café while watching. Nothing’s really happening for now.

“Danbi, are you scared?” I asked Danbi

“Hmm… a little, but this kind of fear will be paid off later if we can catch them” she slurped her latte.

“I know right. Hahaha. So do you want to tell me about this person now? The last time you told me this, you fell asleep in the car” I asked her, but she’s not looking at me.

“Wait…look at your 4 o’clock. Doesn’t he look suspicious? The one wearing all black clothes, with his black hat” she looked to the front with her suspicious eyes.

“Let’s go follow him quietly” we stood up and then someone put a gun to the back of our head.

“From 1 hour ago I've seen your team walking around the complex like looking for something. And now it turns out that I met you in person. What a coincidence" someone said while chuckling.

Without thinking, I immediately turned around and kicked his hand, and Danbi punched him in the stomach.

"Bravo team, abandoned building, NOW!" I called them through walkie talkie.

That person punched Danbi in the face and I pulled out my gun, and aimed it at his head.

“LEE SOK GYO YOU’RE FINISHED” Danbi screamed.

“D… Dad?” I looked at him in shock.

“Hojun?” Lee Sok Gyo froze and he looked at me too, but he started laughing.

“Hmph… No wonder you're good at fighting, it turns out all this because it's from me. It runs in the blood” he laughed at me.

Danbi is looking at us, also dumbfounded.

And that’s a perfect timing for Lee Sok Gyo to aimed his gun to Danbi’s head.

“Drop your gun now, young man” he said to me with his smirk.

I keep my gun pointed at him and pull the trigger, ready to fire.

“After 16 years of not seeing you, it turns out that you are a decent man. You even have a girlfriend. But unfortunately, your girlfriend is the daughter of your mother's killer. Hahahaha so ironic” he laughed.

I am annoyed, and I immediately shot Sokgyo's gun so that the gun slipped from his hand.

“ARE YOU CRAZY??!!” he shouted at me.

“Then let her go, and don't you dare do anything, because I won't hesitate to shoot” I said to him.

Bravo team arrived and immediately pointed their gun to Lee Sok Gyo. He put his hand in the air while smiling at me.

“Bravo team, escort Danbi to the car. Bring her home” I said to the Bravo team.

Bravo team and Danbi left with her face that was still in shock, her eyes were blank.

“Do you have no shame? Why are you dating a murderer's daughter? Better not to interfere with the family like that. There will be no happy ending for you!!” he said to me with frustration.

"Do you have no shame? After torturing me and dumping me, now you are pretending to be my dad, and seem interested in my private life like this?” I replied.

“Hahahaha, kid, you're not my opponent. I have nothing to do with you. So it's better not to stay here for long and go take care of your shocked girlfriend” he said to me, while walking towards me and push my gun to another direction.

I slowly lowered my gun and fell silent.

“Ah… about this building. You're right, this is our base camp. Just come as you please because we won't let our guard down” he smirked at me and he left.

I am also dumbfounded now, can't believe that all this time it was my father who did evil. The one who has hurt the Chairman & Danbi is my father. The one who endangers all members of my team is my father. On the other hand, I couldn't believe that my mother died because of the Chairman's mistake in the past.

The rain is coming down as if to cover my tears. I walked around slowly while crying. I decided not to go home to Danbi today, I need to calm myself down first.

*Danbi’s POV*

I am still shocked by the fact that Lee Sok Gyo is Hojun's father. I feel guilty that my dad accidentally caused Hojun's mother's death. I am contemplating my relationship with Hojun which has just begun.

Is it outrageous if we continue to be together? Can Hojun forgive my dad? Will Hojun see me in a different light after this?

I cried alone in my room while contemplating.
