CHAPTER 10: MAYDAY

*Danbi’s POV*

After the conversation with Hojun that didn't go well, I returned to the hospital. Now I have to try to stay away from him. Hojun had already decided to stay away from me. I cried quietly while driving back to the hospital.

When I got to the hospital, I went straight to my dad's room,

“Not going well huh?” my dad asked with a concerned face.

I nodded and smiled sadly, and sat beside my father's bed.

“Dad … when are you going to come home? I am lonely” I said.

“I'm feeling better. Maybe soon I’ll be able to go home, hold on a little longer” he smiled at me.

I also smiled at him, and he stroked my head.

“Hh… Okay, I will go home now. You have to sleep, dad. Its midnight. Goodnight dad. See you tomorrow.

I walked home... with emptiness.

When I got home, I felt tired. I feel like I don't have the energy to do anything else. I took a shower and lay down on the bed. Is this how it feels when loneliness and sadness overwhelm you?

I admit, I might expect too much from Hojun. I think Hojun has special feelings for me. No, I guess the feelings he has for me will be strong enough to face his past. But I am wrong.

Ugh seriously Danbi, our relationship has just begun, and we are already facing challenges.

I lay down and slowly fell asleep. My body doesn't seem to want to do anything else.

*Hojun’s POV*

It's been 2 days since I last spoke to Danbi. Honestly, I miss her. Every day I go to the lab to just reminisce about my days with her. But she will live better without me, is that a selfish thought?

I haven't heard from her anymore. I don't know what she's doing. Is she now taking care of her father, or maybe practicing martial arts. I don't even know if she's healthy.

During these 5 days I kept thinking. Should I stop working? But that means I've really disappointed the Chairman, and I don't have the courage to face my own fears.

Ringgg... Ringg…

My phone rings

“Sir, the chairman can go home. We're taking him home tonight”

“Ok. Go to Yurihan building after that. Help us to patrol”

“Understood” they replied.

“You’ve worked hard” I said to them.

Then I hung up the phone, and heaved a sigh of relief. At least Danbi is no longer lonely at home.

I decided to pay a visit to Lee Sok Gyo's base camp. When I got to the base, I sat in the same cafe as the one I used to go to with Danbi. The beginning of all this chaos occurred.

I stalked the base, suddenly I saw a familiar figure.

I walked over cautiously while looking around. Turns out it was Danbi.

With reflex, I immediately chased her and pulled her hand.

“What the hell are you doing here?” I said to her in a whisper.

“Hojun??!!” she was shocked.

I pulled her out of the basecamp area. I asked her again

“What are you thinking? Alone in their base??!!” I asked her.

“I ... I just want to spy on them. I wonder why they've been quiet lately. I wonder if they are planning something” she replied to me.

“Is this how you spy on them? You walk this close to them, and alone? This is a suicide mission. Aren't you afraid?” I asked her while rising my voice.

“I'm scared... Of course I’m scared” she replied me and looked at me.

“I'm alone and I'm scared. But I can't stand still. They are a threat to me and my family. Do you expect me to do nothing? For the sake of my family, I will do it myself, even if I have to sacrifice my life” She replies with determination in her eyes.

“You aren’t thinking rationally. Imagine what would happen if you fought them alone??!!” I raise my voice even more.

“Then what should I do??! Do you have a better idea?? I have no partner to fight. My father is still in the hospital and his condition is not 100% recovered. You're avoiding me, I've always been secretly looking for you, but I've never found you. I'm all alone. Who can I ask for help? Like it or not, I have to fight alone!” said Danbi angrily. I was silent and just looked at Danbi's annoyed face.

“If there's nothing more to talk about, I'll go. You don't have to come if you don't want to. I'm not going to force you” she’s trying to push my hand away. I grabbed her hand again

“Don't easily talk about sacrificing your life. I will go crazy if you die” I said to her sadly.

“... But you still chose to stay away from me” she said to me calmly. Danbi let go of my hand and walked away from me. I watched her from behind. But suddenly there was a bomb sound.

BOOM!!

We both lay down on the ground and checked our surroundings. Then we slowly stood up and pulled out our guns. We walked towards the base carefully, and we saw Lee Sok Gyo and his gang members laughing.

“Okay. Looks like it's big enough to blow up a room. Immediately bring out the bomb vest! We have to test it right now” said Lee Sok Gyo.

Danbi and I looked at each other in shock. We immediately moved away from the base and visited the hospital. Danbi and I got in the car and we headed straight to the hospital. We were silent and didn't say anything along the way.

Arriving at the hospital, I stopped at the drop off area. Danbi was confused and asked.

“You are not coming in with me?” she asked.

“I better not. I can't face your father” I answered her.

Danbi was silent and she just clenched her fist.

“Bad guy...so here is the moment when we separate again and not see each other again right? Okay if that's what you want. Suit yourself” she said.

Danbi came out of the door and immediately entered the hospital. I gripped the steering wheel tightly, I was very upset. Why am I acting like a coward? But to be honest, I really can't afford to face them right now. Is Sok Gyo right? Will there be no happy ending for us?

But there’s no time, I immediately rushed to go to Yurihan. I have to pass this information on to all the bodyguards. And must strictly maintain the building.

“This is Alpha; Bravo, Charlie, and Delta Team. I just came from Lee Sok Gyo's base, and saw them testing a bomb. So starting from today, we must guard all areas so that there are no gaps for them to enter the building. Don't let your guard down. Because this can be a big attack. Bring your equipment. And... don't die. Dismissed” I said to them.

“YES SIR!” they answered me.

They immediately ran to the residence and immediately brought their equipment, then returned to the building to guard according to their position.

I pick up my phone

"MAYDAY! The chairman's house was bombed! We are currently on a rescue mission; we need back up here. We have managed to save the chairman, he is full of injuries and lots of rocks fell on him, but Miss Danbi and the rest of the maids haven't been found yet!" they said while panting.

I got up from my seat, I clenched my fists and immediately ran and drove towards Danbi's house

“MAYDAY! MAYDAY!! BRAVO TEAM, TO CHAIRMAN’S HOUSE. NOW!!” I informed them through the walkie talkie.

COME ON DANBI... don't die. Do not give up. I’m begging in my heart.
