3. Riley
I woke up thinking about the look on the guy’s face. Specifically the moment he realized I had seen him. He smiled at me and blew a silent kiss almost like he didn’t give a f**k I’d seen them.
He wasn’t someone I’d seen in school so I guess he’s from another class. It would be crazy if he turned out to be one of the mysterious Lycan twins. Something about this thought made me nervous.
“Oh my god,” I whispered.
I had gossip for the first time ever. This was premium, top-tier, nuclear level gossip. Joanna was going to lose her mind when I told her. I rolled out of bed, already imagining the conversation.
I grabbed my bag and rushed toward the stairs. I heard something weird halfway down the hall towards the gym. It sounded like kissing noises the closer I got.
I froze. Oh no, please not in my house. I peeked around the corner and immediately wished I hadn’t. My mom and dad were in their workout fit, kissing like they were teenagers.
“Gross.”
They both jumped apart like they’ve been caught slipping. My dad cleared his throat. “Riley.”
“I wish I could pluck out my eyes and trade them for a pair just as cute.”
My mom laughed. “You’re dramatic.”
“You were eating each other’s faces.”
“We were kissing,” my dad corrected.
“Same thing.”
I grabbed an apple from the settee like I hadn’t just witnessed emotional trauma. My dad leaned against the treadmill.
“We’re having dinner tonight with the Alpha and his family. The Lycan twins will be there too.”
I nearly choked on my apple. My brain immediately filled with one image. Cody is going to be there. My heart started doing stupid things.
I grabbed my bag and made a move to run out but my mom’s voice interrupted me. “Riley. Don’t forget I love you so much, honey.”
“I love you too, mom.” I said, running out into the morning sun.
The school hallways were already loud when I arrived. I looked around for Joanna as soon as I arrived but there was no sign of her which was weird. Joanna was like a force of nature so seeing her was a definite.
I walked into class just as the bell rang. Our principal stood at the front of the room with two identical looking guys beside him. New students? The principal clapped his hands to get our attention.
“Everyone settle down.” He sighed. “We have some new students joining us today.”
The guys beside him stepped forward and the second I saw their faces, my soul left my body.
Oh no. No no no no no. One of them was him! The guy from the party kissing Bianca’s stupid face.
The principal smiled. “This is Castiel and Darren Knight. They’re the Lycan Princes you've all been hearing about.”
The room came alive with whispers. My brain completely stopped working. Bianca was cheating on Cody with one of the Lycan Princes. I felt like I had accidentally walked into a soap opera.
Castiel’s eyes moved across the room lazily then they landed on me. He grinned at me then winked. I immediately looked down at my desk like the books had become fascinating.
I still hadn’t seen Joanna by lunch which was strange. I checked my phone and saw I had one message.
Started training for the healer contest. Might skip school today. Don’t miss me too much. Joanna.
Sometimes I forgot Joanna wasn’t a werewolf. Most people in town were but Joanna came from a clan of healers. The contest she was preparing for was a big deal. Healers from different territories competed every year and she had been practicing for weeks.
School felt weird without her. I was walking down the hallway after lunch when I heard a voice call out to me.
“Hey.”
I turned around slowly. Castiel leaned against a locker behind me, smiling like a villain.
“You saw something interesting last night,” he said.
My face burned. “I saw nothing.”
He chuckled. “Has anyone ever told you you’re a terrible liar?”
I massaged my temple hoping he’d just disappear. “You’re trouble.”
I tried to walk past him but he stepped in my way. I dodged left but he moved left. I tried to dodge right but he read me easily.
His brother walked over with a confused look on his face. “I knew you were fast but not this fast, bro.” He winked
“Ewww.” I said, rolling my eyes. “Not happening.”
“I’m Darren by the way.” He said, offering his hand, a cool smile on his face.
I was about to give them a piece of my mind when someone ran down the hallway with a bag of stink bombs. I moved too slow as the culprit disappeared around the corner letting off the smelly explosion where we stood.
A teacher appeared out of nowhere. “What is going on here?!”
Five minutes later we were sitting inside the detention room.
I glared angrily at Castiel and Darren. “This is your fault.”
Castiel grinned then blew a kiss at me. I silently wished his stupid handsome face exploded. We sat in silence for a while and I tried to ignore their existence there.
“Your wolf is quiet,” Darren said out of nowhere.
“I’m an omega. It’s not a mystery.”
“You’re fascinating.” He leaned back in his chair.
“I think both of you should stay away from me.”
“Why?” Castiel smiled.
“Because you are chaos packed in a goodie bag.”
Darren grinned. “That’s fair.”
I got up then grabbed a book from the shelf behind me. My fingers barely touched it before I slipped and lost my footing from the ladder.
“Oh no—”
I fell forward toward the floor but before I touched the ground, Castiel grabbed my arm and pulled me toward him.
Our faces touched and suddenly his lips were on mine. Or was it my lips that were on his. I couldn’t tell because my brain was temporarily frozen.
It felt so good that those seconds felt like eternity.
