Heather stared vacantly at the computer screen and wished she’d gone to Gary’s presentation on drift nets. Most of her first article was finished, though, so she decided to simply touch only lightly on the subject and work it in on one of the sidebars. She reminded herself to ask Matt about it when the two of them were on the boat together.
She leaned back in her chair and wondered what Matt was doing. He’d gone back up to L. A. to handle some business, but that could mean anything. In fact, handling some business was Heather’s favorite line when she wanted to get out of going places or doing things she didn’t want to do.
Again, she wondered what he was doing, and she bit down hard in response. She never expected this to happen. She especially never expected some whale special interest
