Despite the exhaustion, Pheyus was too troubled to rest. He drifted aimlessly near the Border, amidst the numerous bodies of the company. The surrounding Stenella who rested comfortably in the dark waters offered no comfort. Pheyus felt isolated and alone. Magisch was gone. It had finally hit him. He’d somehow managed to push it from his mind during the frantic hours of the company’s panic. But now, there were no distractions. Not even the exhaustion was enough to distract him from this catastrophic despair. Pheyus owed everything to Magisch. The old Stellar had taken an interest in him early on and schooled him in the most important lessons of his life. He was always there when Pheyus was in need, and now he was gone. Pheyus knew it wasn’t his fault. Magisch had even said so himself
