Chapter XI

706 Words
Flame Looking at the cabinet filled with all different kinds of movies, the child in me awakened. I always loved watching movies, almost as much as reading books. Both activities making my mind wander into the unknown. Making up a little world on its own and sucking me right in. Looking at the DVDs from bottom to top, I saw one that caught my attention almost immediately. The godfather, my all-time favorite. Reaching up to take it from the top of the cabinet, I felt that it was stuck. Pulling harder, trying to get it out, I fall back with a loud thud, with the DVD in my hand and different pictures and documents lying around me. A bit confused and in shock, I put the DVD down and started putting the pictures together, to put them back from where they fell out of, until one particular picture was lying right underneath my gaze. "Is everything okay? I hear a-" I turned my head, startled by Landon's voice, the picture I was looking at now loosely in my hand. Looking at him, he seemed to be in a state of shock as well. "What is this?" I asked, with a trembling, whisper voice. I could hear him gulp down the surprise that gathered in him. He stepped closer to me, looking down at the pictures and documents before his eyes landed on me. "Landon, what is this!?" anger was coursing through my veins, I couldn' help it. So many emotions were building up inside me from the image that burned into my brain, making me confused and causing my headache. I was trying to gather all the memories I could, to remember the exact moment that was captured on the little piece of paper. "Listen Flame, I -" his voice was soft, barely a whisper as he spoke to me. "I asked you, what this is! I'm going mad Landon! I can't remember taking this picture!" my eyes fell back on the image in my hands. The picture was taken somewhere in a field full of flowers. It was a picture of me and Landon, my head comfortable resting on his chest while looking up at him, while he rested his arms around my shoulder, whilst taking the picture with the other hand. Turning my head to look back up at him, since he fell silent, another picture caught my attention. "Is... Is that an ultrasound image?" On the verge of crying, I crawled to the picture near the foot of the cabinet and picked it up. "Just let me tell you, I never wanted any of this to happen." he was kneeling beside me, my cheeks were already stained by the tears that kept on running down my cheeks. "I don't have a child Landon, what is this!?" I was screaming now. Out of anger, frustration, out of confusion, and the goddamn headache that was making my ears ring. "I think we should visit your parents." he stood up and stuck out his hand, waiting for me to take it. No matter what was going on, I had a feeling of safety whilst with him. No matter what had happened, no matter what contract brought me here or not, I felt like I could trust him right now at this moment. "I promise you Flame, everything will be alright." I took his hand and he pulled me up engulfing me in a warm hug, whilst my tears were running down my cheeks and sinking into his grey shirt, leaving behind a wet trail. "I promise you, nobody will hurt you anymore." I pulled him closer to my body, needing the heat and comfort his hard chest was providing me with the feel of his heart beating against my right hand that was pressed on his chest while the left one was keeping him close, making sure he wouldn't let me crumble down. "I swear, it's going to be okay." his fingers brushed through my hair while he planted a warm kiss on my forehead, making me melt into him. Making me feel something so familiar. Making me feel as if I had been in those arms a hundred times before. Making me feel at home.
