Nora POV
It’s 4pm when my boss, Jack Reed, walks into my office.
“Good afternoon Nora”
He leans against the doorframe and has his arms crossed. He looks at me with a genuine smile.
“Good afternoon Mr. Reed” I smile back at him, rearranging the stacks of papers that were spread all over my desk.
“What can I do for you?”
He re-adjusts his posture and walks over to my desk, taking a seat in the chair in front of it.
“Nora, how many times have I told you before that you can call me Jack?” He sighs with his right eyebrow raised. I can’t help but feel my cheeks blush. After all he is an attractive man and from the reactions I see when he passes by the other women here I am not the only one that thinks that way.
“I’m sorry Jack, it’s just a habit that has been drilled in at school.” And it really was. I attended a private school and I had a few teachers who really hammered on proper ways to address your superiors. We weren’t allowed to call the nice cleaning lady by her name, even after she told us several times to just call her Abby. Everytime Mrs. Johnson heard us saying someones first name we would get detention immediately. And that was no fun, I guarantee you that. Most of the time we needed to write the addresses on the envelopes used to send communication letters to the parents of all the students.
Jack leans forward to my desk and strangles his hands.
“Nora, I have an unpleasant request. I’m leaving tomorrow morning for a business trip and I really need our database on updated by then.” I can see he’s feeling uncomfortable about his question because he starts rubbing his chin in a nervous way.
“But Mr... I’m sorry, Jack. That’s like a least 3 more hours of work.” I know he can see my thunderstruck face. He strangles his hands again and looks down at them before he raises his eyes at me.
“I know, I’m really sorry Nora. They have re-scheduled my meeting so I have to leave tomorrow instead of Monday evening. And I really need all those data to make a good impression with the investors.”
I sigh deeply.
“Can Britney stay to help me with it?”
Not that I’m eager to stay here with Britney. She’s your typical workplace gossip girl. She somehow knows everything about everyone and manages to spread rumors around without having anyone getting mad at her. She spends more time at the coffee corner than at her own desk and doesn’t seem to bother anyone. Especially not the men because they are all distracted by her plunging cleavage.
“I’m afraid not, her ex-husband is bringing the kids back at 5pm so she has to be home.” He looks at me with a disturbed face.
“I thought, since you have no one waiting for you at home, that you wouldn’t mind staying late on a Friday.” He gives me a forced smile. I could feel that he really felt sorry.
“Ok, I guess you have point with that. I’ll make sure you have all the data you need by tonight.” I look at him with a soft smile which he replies with the same gestures, seeing the gratitude in his look.
“Thank you Nora, you are a lifesaver.” Before he stands up and turns his back to walk out. When he reaches the door he turns and says
“When I’m done with my paperwork I will bring you something to make it up to you.”
He turns again and walks out of my office. I stare after him, appreciating his nice looking bum in his trousers. For all I know of him he is 35 years old and looking very attractive. He has brown, medium long, messy hair but is always clean shaved. His muscles are visible through his shirt and he has a beautiful smile. Since he is self-aware of his looks he seems to take advantage of it when it comes to women. With his reputation as womanizer he can have another woman in his bed every night of the week and I’m pretty sure he has used that opportunity in the past. I turn back to my computer, the sooner I’m finished with all of this the sooner I get to leave and crawl up on my sofa and watch some Netflix.
