Chapter 6

Nora POV “Wow, I’m sorry I didn’t see you coming.” I look up at a young men, around my age, who is holding my arm. Then my eyes go downwards, wide open of fear and I stare at his hand wrapped around my arm. “Are you alright beautiful?” He looks at me with a concerned expression over his face. I look up at him and try to say something but I can’t seem to get the words out, my breathing still heavy. He loosens his grip and lays his hand on my cheek, wiping the tears with his thumb. “Don’t worry, I won’t hurt you. My name is Nate btw.” My body relaxes a little as I feel his sincerity. I look him straight into his dark green eyes and I see his concern. He is one foot taller than me and his skin is a bit tanned. He has very dark hair, short on the sides and longer curls on top. He points at a little pub on the other end of the street. “You see that little pub over there? Come with me, you can sit and relax there for a minute and then you can tell me what happened.” I nod my head and take a deep breath. He starts to take off his black leather jacket and places it over my shoulders. “Here you go, you look like you could use it.” Then he gives me a warming smile. “Come on, let’s go.” And we start walking towards the pub. I passed by the place several times before but I never felt the need to step through the door. When we enter the pub I notice that there aren’t as many customers as I expected to be on a Friday night. Nate places his hand on my back to guide me the way. We walk past the bar and the waiter behind it nods his head at us. “Good evening Nate.” “Good evening to you too Charles.” Nate answers him with a smile. Charles seems like a kind man, around his fifties. He’s bald but has a long beard and stands very tall with a beer belly. With a few tattoos showing from under the rolled up sleeves of his red checkered shirt and large stretchers in both ears I find him rather rockabilly-ish. We walk further to the back of the pub where I see a man hanging relaxed in one of the two sofas placed in the corner. He looks up at us and I notice his face looks familiar to Nates, maybe a bit older. The biggest difference is the tattoos on both sides of his head which are clean shaved with a quiff of the same dark brown hair as Nates, neatly combed backwards with gel. He wears a similar black leather jacket and a black, ripped skinny jeans. Two young women with the same edgy look sit on each side of him, their hands caressing his abs and chest that were visible through is white t-shirt. A grin creeps up at his face when he looks at me from head to toe. “Where did you find this little snack Nate?” He smirks and the two women give me an obvious, looking down side-eye. Then they look back at each other and start to giggle. I want to say something but I hold it back because I don’t know these people or this place so it could end bad. “Watch it Jared.” Nate snaps at the man in front of us, his hand still resting on my back. “Let me guess.” Jared pulls his arms away from the two women and leans his elbows on his knees, resting his head on his folded hands. “She’s a damsel, she was in distress and she couldn’t handle it herself?” He continues in a mocking tone, glaring at me. I feel my body starting to tense again, my hands forming tight fists. “Knock it off Jared!” I cringe at the volume of Nates voice. He turns to me, trying to comfort me by resting his hands on my shoulders and making eye contact. “Excuse me. I need to have a quick word with my brother.” With emphasis on the word “brother” which he says through clenched teeth and glaring at him. Nate walks over to Jared and in a blink of an eye he grips Jareds t-shirt in his fist and pulls him towards himself so his face is only an inch away. “Look Jared, I bumped into her on the street on my way over here and she was totally panicking and upset about something but she didn’t tell me why yet. I brought her here so she could calm down and maybe tell me what happened and then you decide to patronize her with your rude ass mouth?!” He hisses and it seems to have effect on Jared since his expression softens and his eyes seek mine. “Ok, ok. I’m sorry.” Jared apologizes while he raises his hands in surrender. Nate roughly lets go of the t-shirt and gets back up. He walks over to me and gives me a sympathetic look which I reply with a small smile. I glance at Jared and watch him gesturing the two women to leave. Seeing the displeased look on their faces makes me chuckle inside. One of them bumps into my shoulder on purpose when they pass me and I’m sure I hear the other one mutter “B*tch”. Jared relaxes back into the sofa again and gestures me to take a seat in the other one. “I’m sorry miss, please make yourself comfortable.” From the moment I take one step forward my body tenses again when I hear a familiar voice shouting through the pub. “There you are, you b*tch!” I turn around with wide eyes and see Jack coming over at me, a haze of fury all over him. Nate jumps in front of me before Jack reaches the back of the pub and I feel Jared pulling me behind him by my arm as he passes to stand by his brother. Nate sticks his arm out and stops Jack with his hand against his chest. “And what are you planning to do sir?” He asks with his eyebrow raised. Jacks nostrils widen, lifts up his arm and tries to reach me between the two men blocking his way. “This little sl*t and I have some unfinished business.” He shouts and I cringe at the scene before me. I never imagined Jack as the rage-filled beast that he appears now. Jared grabs Jacks arm and pushes it down smoothly. “I think these businesses that you’re talking about are finished already.” He glares at Jack with his head slightly tilted. My heart is almost beating out of my chest at this moment. I look around and see the few customers watching us, none of them seems to find this situation unusual. “Mind your own business you little brat!” Jack snaps at Jared. Nate gives Jack a hard push, making him stumble backwards. “That’s my brother you’re talking to assh*le!” He raises his voice at Jack. Through all the adrenaline I hear the front door open and close, hoping it is police or at least someone to help. Jack runs up to us once more and with a roar he tilts his upper body backwards before slamming a header into Nate, making him fall back against me and covering his nose which already starts to bleed. “I said, this sl*t and I have some unfinished business, so she’s coming with me.” Jack repeats himself right before receiving a good right hook from Jared. “Omg, are you ok?” I ask Nate while I take a look at his nose. “Yeah I’m fine.” He assures me. I glance back at the scene before me and I see Jack stumbling back from Jareds punch before he bumps into the most handsome man I have ever seen. He is very tall and has lightly tanned skin. His hair is almost black, combed back with faded trimmed sides that smoothly go over in a trimmed beard. He wears a pair of dark blue jeans and a black shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, showing the tattoos on his lower arms. The shirt isn’t buttoned to the top and I see a small piece of ink on his chest. He grabs Jack by his neck and almost lifts him off the ground as he brings Jacks face closer to his. “The lady is going nowhere.” The man says in the most strong, sexy voice I have ever heard. He tightens his grip so Jack starts to whimper. “But you on the other hand, are going to make your way through that door over there and never step foot in here again.” “And who the hell do you think you are, hu?” Jack moans in pain, trying to squirm away from the man’s tight grip. The man holding him sighs and rolls his eyes. Nerves are running throughout my whole body at this moment and before I even think about it twice the words escape from my mouth. “He is my boyfriend!” Both Jack and the two brothers give me a confused stare, the man holding Jack keeping a straight face though I see a little grin appear around his lips. I instantly regret my outburst and I feel my cheeks start to blush. “Don’t lie to me, you sl*t! You don’t have a boyfriend, otherwise you wouldn’t be looking at me like you always do at the office!” Jack spits out, still trying to get out of the other man’s grip on the scruff of his neck. I can see the man is closely to lose his temper at any moment now and exchanging looks with Nate and Jared who guard me on each side. “Let me explain you something, you simple-minded imbecile. Just because a person is dating someone doesn’t mean their eyes stop working. Secondly, being stared after in a certain way doesn’t give you a free pass into crossing someones boundaries. Thirdly, If I see you near her ever again I will make sure your hands won’t be of any use anymore. Am I clear?” The man almost growls in Jacks ear who stays completely silent. He shakes him a little to make him reply. “Am I clear?” “Y-yes..” Jack mutters under his breath. The man roughly lets go of him and Jack stumbles to the door. He grabs the handle and turns his head to me. “I wanted to fire you on Monday anyway!” He yells before opening the door and disappearing. I cringe at his words but feel relieved at the same time, wanting to resign anyway after what happened. The mystery man turns my way and steps closer, I feel my cheeks blush once again. He reaches out to shake my hand which I reply hesitantly. “My name is Colin Davies, and yours is?”
