Chapter 10

Colin POV

3:30pm

I sit behind my desk in my office and just get out of a phone call as my phone beeps from a text and my heart rate increases when I see it’s from Nora. I don't know what she does to me but she gives me this rare feeling, just thinking about her makes my whole body heat up. While texting back and forth with a smirk on my face I get up and walk out of my office, into the living room.

“What are you so happy about?” My heart misses a beat and I see Jared hanging on my couch with a huge grin on his face.

“Damn it Jared, don’t you have something better to do? And what are you doing here?” I scold him for surprising me with an unexpected visit at my penthouse.

“One, I just finished with the fun stuff I had to do.” He chuckles with an even bigger grin and I roll my eyes since I don’t need to know about his s****l escapades.

“Two, I live one floor down, you gave me the code to your place and I wanted to pay my brother a visit.” He lists in a cocky tone and I smirk since he has a good point. I own the top floor penthouse above a hotel and Jared and Nate own the two apartments one floor below mine. Our places can only be entered via a special elevator with unique codes and I only gave my code to my brothers, staff and a few people standing close to me.

“So tell me brother, who brings up that smile that I haven’t seen in a very long time?” He asks me again and it feels like he is genuinely interested. Though he is the one who doesn’t want to get involved in any romance, he still respects our will to build a relationship with a woman and as it has been a long time since I have been romantically involved with someone he mocks me with it on a daily basis. I stay silent but my brother knows me too well.

“It’s that lady from yesterday isn’t it? Do you think she could be the one for you?”

“I can’t get her involved in our business Jared. She’s way too innocent.” I reply in a harsh way.

“Then keep her out of the illegal one.” Jared shrugs like it’s as easy as it sounds. I rub my temples and sigh because it seems like he doesn’t understand what danger I’ll get her in if she knows about what we do beside the legal businesses we own.

“Besides, you do need a new assistant for the paperwork. Since the last one didn’t show up anymore.” Jared continues, trying to convince me.

“Yes, after you decided to play her…” I glare at him with one brow raised.

“Yeah yeah I know.” He holds his hands up in defense.

“I won’t do it with this one I promise. She’s all yours.” He says and he winks at me.

“You’re gonna regret it if you do.” I threaten him and the look on face tells me he knows I’m being serious, one benefit of being the eldest.

“Now get off my couch and go bother Nate or something.” And I wipe away his feet that he had laid on my coffee table. He gets up, muttering something I can’t hear while he walks past me to the elevator.

“What was that?” I groan in my dominant attitude. He looks over his shoulder and fakes a smile.

“Nothing”. Is the only thing he has to say and I smirk as he steps into the elevator, flipping his finger at me with a wide grin on his face while the doors close. I shake my head, laughing at the comical yet respectful relationship I have with my brothers who I will protect at all cost. When I look at my watch I see I have two more hours before I have to get ready so I lay myself on the couch and watch some netflix.

7:30pm.

I take one last look in the mirror as I put on the black suit jacket that matches my all black outfit for tonight. I completed it with a black tie, silver watch and a pair of black leather shoes. While I take the elevator down to Nate’s apartment a message pops up on my phone.

William: “I just arrived at mrs. Young’s place sir. I expect us to arrive at 8pm sharp.” I smirk as I read the message. William is one of my personal drivers and one of the most devoted I have, though he is still very young I appreciate his sense of duty. The elevator doors open and I walk out, to the left door to Nate’s apartment. Since I don’t see him right away I walk through his apartment and find him in his bedroom struggling with a tie. I go over to him and help him out.

“You still can’t make a tie after all these years?” I chuckle as I tie it for him and he sighs.

“Apparently.” He replies irritated and he rolls his eyes. I finish his tie and give him a tap on the shoulder.

“You’ll learn one day. Come on, let’s get Jared before we are late. William is already on his way with Nora.” I say as I throw him his dark blue suit jacket and we walk over to Jared’s apartment. Just as I lay my hand on the handle the door swings open and a cheerful Jared greets us in his dark grey suit, ready to leave.

“There you are, I was just coming for you guys.” He says with a wide smile that makes Nate and I look very confused at each other. He passes by, stops at the elevator and turns around.

“Are you coming or do I have to entertain Nora by myself?” He smirks and I feel my jaw clench at his words, a feeling of jealousy I didn’t know I had until now. Nate grabs me by my arm and pulls me to the elevator. We go down in silence and see Robby waiting for us at the SUV. He opens the doors for us and I get in the passenger seat while Jared and Nate take the backseat. After fifteen minutes we arrive at the gala and get out of the car before Robby drives off to the rest of the personal drivers.

“So, what now?” Nate asks while he looks at all the people going inside.

“We wait, William should be arriving any minute.” I say, and before I can continue I turn around and see the black limousine stop right in front of us. William gets out of the driver's seat and walks towards the back door.While he opens it and holds out his hand to help Nora get out of the limo my heart starts to beat like crazy as I see a little sneak peak of the satin red dress. I watch her get out and her eyes meet mine. She looks so gorgeous in that dress and my leather jacket over her shoulders makes her even more attractive. I feel my mouth run dry and I swallow hard as I get the same feeling I have since the moment I met her.
