Chapter 16

Nora POV 7:00 AM I am woken up by my alarm and when I look next to me I see Eliza just snoozing through the noise. “Eliza, wake up. You have to go to work.” I push her softly to wake her up, but a moan of agony is the only thing I receive. With a loud sigh I get out of bed and walk to her kitchen to get a glass of water. I take a sip while I walk back to the bedroom and pour the rest of it on her face. “What the h*ll?!” She wakes up startled and glares at me when she sees me standing next to her bed with an empty glass in my hand and a wide grin on my face. “You have to get ready for work.” I smirk as I pull the blanket away from her and she tries but fails to stop me from doing it. “Nora, I love you but if you’re planning on doing this every morning I swear I will kick you out.” She threatens me in a playful way, making me laugh at her. “I love you too, now get out of bed or I will occupy the bathroom first.” I chuckle before I turn around to walk to the bathroom. “Oh no you won’t.” Eliza hops out of bed and runs past me and it makes me laugh even harder. While Eliza is getting ready in the bathroom I decide to eat some breakfast so I go over to her kitchen and open up the cabinet to see what it has to offer. “A bowl of cereal will do.” I mutter to myself as I grab a bowl and fill it up with the cereal and some milk. As I sit myself at her kitchen table I check my phone and see I have a message from Colin. Colin: “Good Morning beautiful. I hope you got some sleep last night. Have you decided what you’re going to do with your job already? X” My heart warms as I read it. Nora: “Good Morning. I slept very well, thank you. I’m about to get ready to go to the office and give my resignation. I was planning on taking a taxi to the hotel afterwards so I can go check on Mrs. Miller and my other neighbours. X” Colin: “I’m glad you made the right decision. Just text me when you’re done at the office and I will send William to come and pick you up. And remember, no discussions. X” Nora: “Ok Mr. Dominant. I will text you. X” I chuckle as I send the last message and when I look up I see Eliza appearing in the kitchen with her wet hair wrapped up in a towel. “Bathroom is yours.” Is the only thing that comes out of her but I know it’s just because she hasn’t had her coffee yet so I roll my eyes playfully as I stand up to get a shower. “I steal a pair of jeans and a t-shirt from your closet, okay?” I shout as I walk into her bedroom and open up her closet. “Grab what you like Nora.” She shouts back and I hear her coffee maker making the loud, familiar noise of a cup being filled with black energy. I hop in the shower and quickly wash my hair and body before I rinse it off and get out again. I put on a clean pair of underwear and ripped, dark blue jeans. When I look in the mirror I stare at my chest and imagine Colin’s hands caressing it like he did yesterday. The memory of his touch and his kisses makes my body heat up again and my n*pples harden. I shake my head to get myself back to reality and put on the bra and black t-shirt I layed on the counter. After I brushed out my hair I put in some curl mousse to give my natural wavy hair a little more volume. Eliza looks up from her cup of coffee as I walk back into the kitchen. “Good thing we have the same size, it fits you well.” She says as she checks out my outfit and it seems like she’s back to the land of the living after her coffee. “Yes, thank you.” I smile as I look down to myself and twirl around a bit. “Are you ready for it?” She asks me with a sympathetic look on her face. “Yes I am. I can’t be around Jack anymore after what happened. I will figure something out to earn my money.” I sigh but I feel pretty confident about my decision. “Maybe you can talk to Colin again about the vacancy he has open?” She suggests as she gets up and walks to the hall. After we got here yesterday we talked about everything that happened at the club and the chemistry we both noticed between Colin and me but I didn’t tell her what happened at his place since I don’t know what is going on myself. “I will call him after I get out of the office. I was gonna go over there anyway to check upon Chelsey and Henry.” I shrug as I follow her and I put on the white blazer she handed me and a pair of black sneakers. We take the elevator down and we head our way to the office, since Eliza’s place is at walking distance she doesn’t own a car so we walk for ten minutes until we arrive. My heart almost pounds out of my chest as I take a deep breath before we enter the building. We take the elevator and when it stops at Eliza’s floor she turns to me before she heads out. “Good luck, if you need me just call me ok?” She seeks assurance in my eyes as she holds my hands and I nod. I watch her walk to her desk when the doors close and the elevator starts moving again. When the doors open I go straight to Jack’s office, knowing he won’t be there since he is still on his business trip. I knock on the door and hear a female voice responding. “Come in.” I open the door and see Janet sitting behind Jack’s desk. Janet is a middle-aged woman who is in charge whenever Jack is away for work or on vacation. She is kind but also distant towards her co-workers. “What can I do for you Nora? And why are you wearing those clothes? It’s Monday.” She looks sternly at me and I start to get a little uncomfortable. “I want to resign, immediately” I say quickly as I regain my confidence. A look of surprise creeps upon Janet’s face. “And why would you want to do that? I thought you were happy working here? Did something happen?” She asks me in a formal tone. For a few seconds I think about telling her the truth about what happened with Jack but then it falls to me that she’ll probably won’t believe me and I don’t want the others to think I wanted to spread a rumour about their so beloved boss right before I quit my job. “I was happy indeed but I think it’s time for me to try something new.” I defend my decision to quit my job. “What are you going to do then? Don’t you want to say goodbye to Jack?” She asks me again, still shocked by my sudden announcement. “I don’t know yet but I called Jack yesterday to inform him about my decision and he respects it.” I lie to her but it seems like she believes me. “Well, ok. You’ll need to sign these papers and then you can leave, I guess.” She hands me a couple of papers and a pen so I sit down and start to fill them in as quickly as I can. “Here you go.” I hand them back to her with a smile and she glares at me with a look of irritation. “I wish you the best in the future Nora.” She says bluntly, not in the least affected by my smile of happiness and relief. I stand up and walk out to the elevator when I hear the most annoying voice of the office. “Are you sick Nora?” I turn around and see Britney looking at me confused. “Yes, Britney. Actually I am.” I say as I hear the doors of the elevator open and I walk in. “I am sick of this place and I am sick of watching some people do all the work around here while others just earn their money by spending their day at the coffee corner.” I let all my frustration out and damn that feels good. The look on her face makes me laugh and I give her a small wave as the doors close and I’m on my way out of this place. As soon as I walk out of the building I grab my phone to text Colin. Nora: “I just got out. X” Colin: “Ok, William will be there in a couple of minutes. X” I put my phone back in my purse and lean against the wall as I stare around me. The same kind of people I see everyday and I feel relieved that I saved myself from getting stuck in this situation for the rest of my life. When I look across the street my heart skips a beat as I notice that once again a weird man in a black suit and sunglasses is staring at me before he disappears in the crowd of people rushing through the streets. Just as I want to cross the street to go look for him to get an explanation a black SUV stops right in front of me and William steps out to open the door for me. “Good Morning, Mrs. Nora.” He nods his head as he opens the door in the back. “Good Morning.” I mutter as I get in the car while I gaze at the other side of the street to see if this man is still around. William closes the door and sits behind the steering wheel before he maneuvers the car into the traffic.
