CHAPTER 4: Xavier’s POV (Continued)
It was already dark outside, and she still wasn't here. "What’s taking her so long?" I whispered. I knew I was a guest here, but she was taking too long.
I decided to go downstairs and check. I wanted to dress my wounds because the blood was making me feel sticky. When I reached downstairs, I heard giggles and laughter from the two siblings.
"Mr. Xavier?" Cassandra said my name with a surprised, soft voice.
"Cassandra," I replied. She blushed when I mentioned her name.
"Ah, why are you here, Mr. Xavier?" she asked.
I sighed. "I was waiting for the bath, but you took so long. That's why I came here to check, and because the blood is making me feel sticky." She seemed lost; I guess she forgets things that easily.
"Oh yeah, Mr. Xavier, sorry. I came down to serve Kelvin his food and decided to take mine as well," she replied and apologized. It seems she likes saying sorry very much—well, I think it's just her personality.
"No need," I replied. She glanced toward her brother and used her eyes to signal him to take his dishes to the kitchen. He rolled his eyes and frowned before doing so.
She took me to the guest bathroom, gave me a fresh towel, and I went inside to bathe. "Oh, and anyway, you can call me Xavier. No need for the 'Mr.'—it sounds vulgar," I told her.
"Okay, Mr... I mean, Xavier," she hesitated before saying my name. She even giggled. She is such a silly girl.
She left the room and I went into the bathroom. I got completely naked and went into the bathtub. I squeezed the shower gel on the sponge. The scent of the gel wafted through my nose. I like the scent of the gel... I started feeling nostalgic. This scent felt familiar; I tried remembering where I knew the scent from, but it was to no avail. I just shrugged it off and dwelled in the feeling of the hot bath.
After showering, I got dressed and went into the attic to sleep. I drifted to sleep immediately and welcomed the quiet darkness.
Cassie's POV 😊
I was sleeping when Kelvin suddenly burst into the room and woke me up.
"Cassie, Cassie, Mom is here!" he said, panicking and waking me up frantically.
"Hmm, okay, let me sleep," I said in my sleep, not understanding what he was saying. He shook me violently, making me sit up on the bed.
"What, Kelvin?!" I said, irritation evident in my voice.
"Mom is here! What if she sees Mr. Xavier?" he sounded frustrated. My eyes widened at the realization. Suddenly, we heard Mom’s heart-wrenching yell.
"Ahhh! Who are you?!"
We immediately ran to the attic. Mom was holding a bedside lamp as a weapon, still yelling and using some curse words. "Who the f*** are you? What do you want? Don't you dare try to harm my children!" Mom was clearly terrified.
"Mom, mom, wait! Lis—listen to me!" I tried to calm her down.
"No, step back!" she said, waving her hand at us. What should I do to stop her? I racked my brain for a solution, but there was nothing I could come up with.
"Mom, look, I brought him here. I know him!" I raised my voice a little to gain her attention. She turned her head to me abruptly, a deep frown on her face. "What did you just say?" she asked with rage.
"Could you drop the lamp first? Then we will sit and talk. I will explain everything to you."
I slowly took the lamp from her hands. Xavier gave out a sigh of relief. I explained everything to her—finding Xavier in a bad state and him losing his memory, not even knowing who he is.
"So you are saying you saw him at the roadside, brutally beaten, and you brought him home? You being the 'good girl' you are?" she asked in awe.
"Yes," I replied. Suddenly, her expression changed to one of frustration. She raked her fingers through her hair.
"But Cassie, you know how we are struggling. I can't feed another mouth. I'm old and worn out."
"Don't worry, I'll get a job and help the house," Xavier said. "As of right now, I have nowhere to go. I will start looking for a job next week." I was about to talk when I was interrupted by Xavier.
"He is willing to help us and join the family. Please, Mom, just accept him. I don't think he's a bad person," I pleaded.
"Hmm, fine. I will let him stay, but he should move to the guest room tomorrow." Mom accepted, but with a little bit of hesitation.
"Really?" I asked, taken aback by her acceptance. She simply nodded and stood up and went up to her room. I looked at Kelvin beside me and smiled; he smiled back at me. I turned to look at Xavier, and he had a small smile on his face. I smiled back at him. It wasn't that late, so I went to clean the guest room for him. He went in after I finished.
I also went to my room to sleep. There is school tomorrow; it's Friday, which means we will close early!
The next day, I woke up feeling all worn out because I tried calming Mom down yesterday night. I took my bath and got ready for school. I went downstairs to eat breakfast. I heard laughter from the kitchen, which was mom's, obviously. When I entered, I saw Mom laughing hard at what Xavier said. No one was looking my way when I entered the kitchen. I didn't like the fact...
