CHAPTER 3 "He's awake," I whispered to Kelvin. The guy looked around confusingly before he tried to sit up. I went to his side in a hurry to help him. I gave him some water; he drank almost all of it. I placed the glass back on the bedside table and turned to look at him. Our eyes met, and I was mesmerized. It was as if time had stopped. He has the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen. Those hazel eyes were staring at me sharply. Kelvin patted me on the back, which brought me back to my senses. "Who are you?" he asked, his voice hoarse and a deep frown on his face. "My name is Cassandra. You can call me Cassie for short, and this is my brother Kelvin," I introduced us. "I’m A-Asher." "Oh, okay. So, uh... what happened to you?" I asked with suspicion. "I don't know. I don't remember anything. All I remember is my name, which I just told you." I could see that he was trying hard to remember something. "Ohh, that's bad," Kelvin whispered. I suddenly remembered something. I went to his coat and checked the pocket. I saw his wallet, opened it, and saw a wad of cash. "Wow, that's a lot of money." I found his ID and checked it. "What the f***?" My eyes widened. He is that old? He’s eleven years older than me. "You're twenty-eight years old?" I asked, bewildered. That’s old, but he looks so young and handsome. "Xavier Asher?" I read. "That's my name?" he asked with a raised eyebrow and a look of realization. "Yeah," I replied. "Where did you find me?" he asked me suspiciously. "At the side of the road when I was walking back from school. It's about twenty minutes from here." "Thank you for saving me," he said with appreciation. "No problem! I happened to pass by, so I just helped," I continued, shrugging. Again, I thought to myself: Xavier Asher. Such a nice name. But I was still surprised by his age. Twenty-eight years... wow, I said in a low voice. With such a young and handsome face, I wondered how he looked as a teen. I giggled. I shook off all thoughts of him and went downstairs to the kitchen to make a quick dinner for Kelvin and Mr. Xavier. It took me thirty minutes to make some scrambled eggs, bacon, and pancakes with honey syrup. I took off my apron and sighed. When I was done, I looked at the plates full of the delicacies I'd made and thought, Woohoo, I'm a wife! Then I giggled at my silly thought. It was then that I realized I had totally forgotten about Natalie and school. I muttered, "I need to keep myself busy to escape thoughts of Natalie... I guess we can't be friends anymore." I shrugged the thoughts out of my head. I took Mr. Xavier's dish upstairs to the attic first. I knocked on the door. "Come in," his hoarse voice answered. I opened the door and entered slowly. He was half-naked, changing his shirt. He was holding a bloody t-shirt stained from the fresh wound. I glanced at his perfectly modeled torso and muscles, totally starstruck. I guess I was drooling until I heard him say: "You can keep it beside the bed." I was brought back to my senses, totally embarrassed. I placed the food tray on the floor. "Sorry," I apologized, my cheeks turning red. "It's okay," he replied. I thought maybe he needed a hot bath, so I asked him. He replied, "Oh, that would be nice." "Okay, I will prepare one for you in the guest room." I turned around to go prepare it. "Thanks for everything," he suddenly said. "No problem," I replied with a small smile. He smiled a little, too. He looks even more handsome when he smiles. I took my leave, went to the laundry room to grab some fresh towels and my new vanilla-scented shower gel, and headed to the guest room. I met Kelvin in the hallway. He had a frown on his face. "Sister, is the food not ready yet? I'm hungrrrry!" he whined. Oh dammit! I forgot about my brother because I was busy looking over a stranger. "Sorry Kel, your food is on the table," I said with a sympathetic look. "Whatever," he rolled his eyes at me. I served Kelvin his dish and went to the bathroom to run Xavier's bath. After that, I went downstairs to eat. I had a conversation with Kelvin for about thirty minutes while eating. Then, we heard footsteps coming downstairs. It was Mr. Xavier. I didn't even realize I had mentioned his name until it escaped my mouth. "Mr. Xavier? Is everything okay?" "Well, I was waiting for the hot bath, but I think it’s taking too long, so I decided to come down and check," he replied. "Oops," I whispered. I totally forgot about the bath. "Sorry, Mr. Xavier. I was serving Kelvin lunch and decided to eat mine, too. Sorry again. Is your wound okay?" I asked apologetically. "No need, and my wound is okay now," he said nonchalantly. I glanced toward Kelvin to signal him to take the plates to the kitchen. He frowned and rolled his eyes before doing so. I quickly grabbed my phone and started moving toward the guest room. Xavier followed me. "I made your bath before I went downstairs, but I think it has turned cold by now, so I will just reheat it," I told him before entering the bathroom. I came back a few minutes later. "Mr. Xavier, please, I'm done preparing the bath," I said, looking everywhere but at his eyes. He stared at me for a while before saying, "You can just call me Xavier. There's no need for the formalities." "Oh, Mr.—Sorry, Xavier," I said with a giggle. He shook his head with a small smile and left the room. I went to the storage room to collect some old clothes. I ironed them nicely and added some necessary things for Xavier. "I mean, Xavier," I muttered to myself with a smile. I took the things to the attic. I guessed he was still showering. I decided to clean up the attic while he was away to make it nice for him. I laid the bed, folded the sheets neatly, swept the room, and added air freshener to make it smell like vanilla. I also turned on the ceiling fan. I took the leftover food and swiftly left the room. I went downstairs to the kitchen to do the dishes and the rest of the chores. I was totally exhausted. I went to my room to take a shower, changed into my baggy t-shirt and shorts, and decided to rest a little. Xavier's POV 🤨 After they left the room, I tried recalling any past memories, but it wasn't working. All it brought me was enormous pain; the more I tried, the more my head throbbed. I gave up trying to remember. I stood up and looked for my ID card, but it brought nothing to me. All it had was my name and date of birth. "Xavier Asher," I muttered. It sounded blunt. There was nothing familiar about it, just an isolated name. There were no emotions on my face when I looked at the picture. I think that's just how my nature is. I placed the card down and thought about the kids who saved me. "Cassandra and Kelvin." They seem friendly enough. She looks "Bellissima" (beautiful). I guess she likes black for her to dress in an all-black outfit. There is more to her than what meets the eye. I smirked. I felt my stomach churning and making noise. I'm hungry. I laid on the bed flat on my back. I suddenly felt a sharp pain; I think the wound opened. Blood wet my shirt. Suddenly, I heard a soft knock on the door. "Come in," my voice sounded hoarse. Cassandra entered the room slowly before she stood there staring at me. I smirked. I think she's attracted to me, even in my wounded state. "You can put the dish on the table." She was brought out of her "la-la-land." She muttered a "sorry" with a soft giggle. "No need," I said. It seems her personality doesn't match the color she likes. The aroma of the food made my stomach roar louder, which was a little embarrassing. Suddenly she said, "Can I prepare a hot bath for you?" It sounded nice, so I replied, "Oh, that would be really nice, thank you." I didn't know when a smile escaped my lips. She left the room. After that, I quickly moved toward the food on the table. I instantly dug in; it tasted great. I ate everything on the plate and drank some water. I decided to wait for her. After I finished eating, I laid on the bed to wait...
