CHAPTER 2 I had the urge to help him, but I was scared. What if he is just pretending? But my gut still told me to help him, so I just walked up to him. His eyes were closed. How am I going to carry him if he has fainted? I asked myself in a dilemma. Suddenly, he opened his eyes slowly and looked at me. A small frown was on his forehead. "Thank God," I let out a sigh of relief. "Wa-ter," he said faintly. His voice cracking, I immediately took out my water bottle and helped him to drink. This guy is very handsome, even though he's bruised all over his body. After he finished drinking the water, I placed the bottle inside my backpack. "Hey, listen. I'm going to help you up, but you need to cooperate, okay?" I said, and he blinked in response. I held his shoulder and placed his arm over my shoulder. After helping him to stand, I held his waist to support him in walking. Although he was hurt, he really tried, and we walked slowly. It took long, but we finally reached our house. I knocked on the door and Kelvin was the one who opened it. I think Mom is not yet home; maybe she's working overtime again. I helped the guy into the house, I took him to my room and placed him on my bed. All this while, Kelvin was behind me buzzing me with questions. "Sis, who is he?" "Do you know how he got hurt?" and so many questions that I started to have a headache. "Can you let me answer your questions one after the other?" I asked, rubbing my forehead in frustration. "So, first of all, I don't know him and I don't know how he got beaten up like that." I said, my hands akimbo. "He was dumped..." "He's awake," I whispered to Kelvin. The guy looked around confusingly before he tried to sit up. I went to his side in a hurry to help him. I gave him water to drink; he drank almost all of it. I placed the glass back on the bedside table. I turned to look at him and our eyes met. I was mesmerized by his eyes. It was as if time had stopped. He has the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen before. This hazel was staring at me sharply. Kelvin patted me on the back, which brought me back to my senses. "Who are you?" he asked, his voice hoarse and a deep frown on his face. "My name is Cassandra. You can call me Cassie for short, and that is my brother Kelvin." I introduced us to him. "I'm A-Asher." "Oh, okay. So, uh, what happened to you?" I asked with suspicion. "I don't know. I don't remember anything. All I remember is my name, which I told just now." I can see that he is trying to remember something. "Oh, that's bad," Kelvin whispered. I suddenly remembered something. I went to his coat and checked the pocket. I saw his wallet. I opened it and saw a wad of cash. "Wow, that's a lot of money." I saw his ID and checked. "What the f***," my eyes widened. He is that old? He's eleven years older than me. "You're 28 years old?" I asked bewilderedly. That's old, but he looks young and handsome. "Xavier Asher?" "That's my name?" he asked with raised eyebrow and some realization. "Yeah," I replied. "Where did you find me?" he asked at me suspiciously. "At the side of the road when I was walking back from a park, 20 minutes from here." "Thank you for saving me," he said with appreciation. "Help me! I happened to pass by so I just helped him," I continued, shrugging. "What!?" Kelvin yelled. I immediately covered his mouth, not wanting him to wake the man up. He shrugged off my hand and started lecturing me. "Big sis? You don't know who he is, and you—and you—you just brought him to our house?" he exclaimed, wide-eyed, pointing at him. "What if he is a serial killer? He will kill us!" he exaggerated, making a sign with his hands cutting his throat. What he said might be true, but he is already here. I can't. I don't know, but I have this feeling to help him. "Well, I... you just help me clean him up, and after that, we will think about something," I said, my hands on my hips. "We?" he raised an eyebrow at me. "Please!" I made a puppy face and looked at him. I know he can't resist it. "Jesus... fine," he said defeatedly. He brought out the first aid box and helped in cleaning his wounds. I gave him a new set of clothes from the basement, which was for our late dad. "So what now?" I asked the "big brain" Kelvin. He held his chin between his thumb and index finger and thought for a while. "I think we should take him to the attic or else if Mom finds him here—" he shook his head in a disapproving manner. "Hell will rain in this house," he ended his sentence with a warning look. "Then we should make sure that Mom never goes to the attic, else we're doomed," I said, shaking my head. "Yeah, right." "And we should make sure that the attic is comfy for him," he said. "Oh, yeah," he replied. We went to the attic to clean it. Luckily for us, there was a mattress there. We placed it near the window. I brought a pillow and blanket from my room. When everything was set, we went back to the room. His eyes were wide open.
