So Many Questions

I wasn't really planning on going with him, but I needed to get away from him and all the tingles his touch sent down my body. I couldn't understand how he could do that. He wasn't like me and couldn't be my mate. On top of that, he was an arrogant asshole. I decided to stop off and check on my Beta. I would need to update dad on the pack, and he'd want to know everything. It was pretty quiet outside the infirmary, and I was able to slip inside without a hassle. I was surprised to find him sitting up in bed. "You look a lot better," I beamed. "Thanks, docs been great. Says I can leave this room and go back to my own tomorrow," "That's great," I took a seat next to the bed, I didn't have a lot of answers for him, but I wanted to at least relay what the Angel had told me. "So, any news yet?" He asked as if reading my mind. "I know it's not much, but he did reassure me that he wouldn't kill you. He said it's not his style. "Wait, did you say he said? As in you have spoken with him? Lilly that can't be good," He whisper yelled. "It's complicated. I wish I could tell you more, but until I understand it all, I'm afraid you will just have to accept this," I decided to change the subject, "I need to go away for a day or so to do some research, I am happy you will be out of here tomorrow. Dad should be back in a day or so as well," "How long will you be gone?" He asked "I don't know, perhaps overnight," I realized that I have done exactly what I said I wasn't going to do, leave with the Angel. I guess I could start referring to him by one of his many names I found online, but Angel sounded less friendly, and I needed to stay as neutral with him as possible. He sighed, and for a few moments, we sat in silence. Thinking he drifted off to sleep, I stood up and walked towards the door. "I spoke to my dad about it," He said, stopping me in my tracks. "Why would you do that?" I didn't need more of the pack to worry, and I knew he would tell my dad. He was once the trusted Beta of my father before he retired. "Mark, why would you do that?" I could not guarantee his father's life, and I wasn't even sure what this would mean now that he knew. "Lilly, he is the one who told me about The Angel of Death." I decided this would need an explanation, so I walked back over and sat back down. "Do you remember when my Grandma Sheryl was in the hospital?" I shook my head. She was unconscious for a week in a comatose state before waking. She's never been the same since. "Well, she talked of the many things she seen and heard while in a coma. Dad had asked her if she saw the Angel of Death." "Did she?" I asked, intrigued. "No, she didn't. Dad seemed to be upset by it. He kept saying then who would it be. I asked him what he meant. He said that he had seen some stuff in your father's safe and that he was sure someone from this pack would see him. He wasn't sure why. He said he didn't get a good look at the stuff. He would have to tell you more about it," I guess I had one more stop to make today. "Don't worry, Mark, just get yourself better. You have a newborn baby and.."I began "I know," He sadly said. He pushed the button on the side of his bed and adjusted his pillow. It was time for me to go. Mark was made with the conversation, it seemed. Before I could even knock on the door, it swung open, revealing Mr. Cline, Mark's father and my dad's best friend. "I'm sorry, did I come at a bad time?" I asked "No, Mark told me you'd come. I sensed you coming up the walk, come in," He opened the door and motioned me in with his left hand. "I see." I nodded and stepped inside the house. It seemed so long ago since the last time I was here, but really it was only weeks ago when we all had dinner. "I won't take up much of your time." He walked silently down the hall and into his office. Once we were both inside, he shut the door. "So Mark tells me you have seen the Angel of Death," He wasted no time at all. "Mark tells me you have knowledge of certain private documents my father keeps in his safe," I fired back. I wasn't sure why I was taking the defense, but I was. "Shortly after your father took over the pack and made me Beta, we were going through paperwork. He had laid a pile on the table when your mother called from the door to him. I wanted to be of help and prove my worth, so I started to sift through the papers," "What papers?" I interrupted "The pack finances. There was an issue with a territory purchase, and he needed to find documents pertaining to it." Any way as I began sifting through, there was a paper that had scribbles on it. One side was in a language I couldn't understand. The other had what I assumed was the translation. I couldn't make out much, but I did make out that one would see The Angel of Death from his bloodline," "Mark tells me you had asked your mother if she had?" I said "Yes. Most do not know, but generations back, my mother's side is related to your fathers," I had heard this but forgotten, so I nodded. "I was afraid for my mother but glad when she said no. Then Mark told me he had seen him. I panicked," "But why. your son's life was..." "Lilly, the paper, if correct, said the one who could see him would be tied to him...for eternity," His hands were shaking, and I felt bad for being so nonchalant. I guess I was a little upset he would go through my father's personal papers, though now I understand why. "Did my father know?" I asked. "That's the thing. I felt bad because once I saw they weren't about finances, I should have put it back. I never mentioned it to him, but I'm sure he has to have read it," He hung his head, and I wanted to comfort him. "My father would not be mad at you. You were trying to help." I said, placing a reassuring arm on his shoulder. "We have never kept secrets, Lilly. We have been best friends since..well since forever," he said. "But what worries me now is Mark said you also saw him. I can understand why Mark did. he was going to die. I am thankful that he lived though I fear what that means now that he has seen him, but you Lilly.." "Mark will be fine. I can assure you that," "Lilly, but you won't. What if this could have been prevented?" He said. I didn't know what to say. I didn't want to tell them that I got all the signs of a mate connection when around him. An idea popped into my head. "Which safe was this?" I asked "The one in the library, I believe," He said. "I have got to go, but I promise I'm looking into this. Just promise you will speak to this with no one, not even my father?" "Lilly, you know I can't keep it from him for long," He said "Just give me some time, a week to do some research is all I ask. I don't want to worry him more till I know all the facts," I pleaded. "Very well, but one week and that's all I Can d," I stood up and headed for the door with his reassurance. I had a lot to do in a week's time. "Lilly, please be careful," Was the last thing I heard before I walked out. The call with my father had been short. He was pleased that Mark was doing so well. He was leaving in a few days, which was the earliest he could arrange. The pack members he had sent back had arrived safely. We were well equipped in case of another attack. I had asked Mark's father to help with the day to day in the meantime. Reluctantly I headed back to my room and packed a quick overnight bag. I was relieved to find I was alone, and The Angel was nowhere in sight. I needed a few minutes to think. I didn't see the paper he was talking about in my father's safe. I could always call Grandpa, but I didn't want to raise his suspicion. Once again, I felt tingles in my body and knew my reprieve was over. He is here. "I'm glad to see you're ready. We can't afford to waste any more time," He looked gorgeous in his faded blue jeans that hung around his waist, slightly loose but snug enough in all the right places. "See something you like?" He smirked, making me blush. I rolled my eyes and turned away. "Many men look nice in their jeans. It doesn't mean I want to jump their bones," I said. "You're the one talking about jumping bones, not me," He shrugged. "Drink this," He handed me a small cup with a thick blue liquid inside. "Are you crazy? Why would I drink anything you give me?" I asked "Lilly, I told you already. It will help deal with the ill effects of my world, now drink," I smelled it, and surprisingly it smelled good—sort of like a mixture of honey, mint, and something else I couldn't quite place. I was sure he said Sam, his lackey, or whatever he was was bringing it. "Where's Sam?" I asked "He's busy elsewhere, so I went and procured it myself," He shrugged. I lifted the glass to my lips, and without another thought, I drank it. It didn't taste half bad, though it didn't taste like tea, as he said. I waited to see if anything would happen, half expecting to keel over and die and half expecting...well, nothing. Nothing was what I got, which I was glad for. The Angel started laughing, and I couldn't help but think it was at my expense. "What is so funny?" I asked "You, the look on your face. What did you think I was going to kill you with a potion?" He laughed harder now. "Well, you are the Angel of Death," I said. "Come, Lilly, it's time to go," As he lifted me into his arms again, I felt warm all over, and I couldn't resist the urge to wrap my hands around his neck. My inner wolf purred, and I wanted to slap her if only I could. We were standing outside a cafe. I didn't recognize any of my surroundings. Did they have cafes in his world? The thought of him sipping on a cappuccino made me laugh. He glanced oddly at me then took my hand. "Where are we going, oh mighty Angel," I teased. We walked in silence, more like he tugged in silence. Good thing I didn't have on heels because I wouldn't be able to keep up. After what seemed like a lifetime, but it was really only a few minutes, we stopped. He looked nervously around, looking from the traffic to me. He seemed to be debating something in his head. I didn't even know where we were, so I just stood there admiring the shop windows. I guess people dressed just like we did in his world, too, I thought as I saw a mannequin in the window with the latest fashions on. "I'm sorry, " I heard him say, bringing me out of my thoughts. Before I could ask him why he shoved me, and I lost my balance as a car came rushing towards me.
